aready
Can anyone let me know what spelling they use? Why they like it? What they don't like about it? For some reason this seems to be a hard one for me to decide?!? I have a 3rd grader.
jensway
We use AAS and like it a lot. It is very structured with set spelling rules. It is also a multi-sensory curriculum as it has tiles that we use for hands-on.
SilverMoon
My little guy uses A Reason For Spelling, level A/first grade. I like this one for the first couple/few years, it's a nice gentle introduction to spelling. The lists are organized phonetically, but it doesn't cover the rules too much. My very literal thinker uses Spelling Wisdom level 1/grades 3-5. Learning the words in context has made all the difference for her. Last but not least, my oldest uses Rod and Staff spelling. It's phonics rule based, and really makes the kid use that rule. When my first grader uses up all the ARFS sets I have TEs for he'll move to R&S too. Katiebug_1976
After switching around for several years, we have chosen Spelling Power. I can't think of anything I don't like about it. It's great for us because the daily lessons are short and simple. I don't feel like I'm falling behind if we skip a day or two since it is not set up on a 36 week schedule. You just pick up where you left off at the end of the last year. My kids are doing well with it, too. I have both natural spellers and one not so natural speller, and they are all progressing nicely. I also like that I have 1 book for all kids, forever! It's so simple. There are lots of activities you can add if you like, but we don't add much to the daily tests/practice. Hope you find what works for you.

All About Spelling is my favorite, because it is multi-sensory, holds your hand in the teacher manual (don't always need it but like that it is there), and you can set different paces for your children based on their ability. I also like Spell to Write and Read, but it has a very steep learning curve. Once you do figure it out it is simple to use. Heather
