Cammie
Hello, My dd is 8 years old in 4th grade. We are expats in India so we have not done any of the testing but she reads much above her grade level. She is a beautiful writer and writes poetry. I am planing to move to after-schooling her in some areas. Can you please recommend a reading/writing program that would be interesting and challenging? Thanks! - Cammie
Capt_Uhura
I would read at http://www.bravewriter.com. She also has several online writing courses.
jlovebaker
We're using the Student Writing Intensive DVDs and I've found my kids' writing to be much more interesting. I love that Andrew does the teaching and I get to be the editor. The lesson plans are also clear and easy to follow and my kids' aren't complaining (as much!). smrtmama
I must strongly urge against IEW's Ancients writing unit. Between the banned words list, the emphasis on -ly adjective, and the subtle Bible literalism in the passages and vocabulary definition, I found it to be a waste of money. It's a very tedious curriculum.
love2read
Thumbs up for IEW. It's our favorite program and we've even a few of our college age children have even had their professor's ask them where they learned to write. One ds just had his English 112 prof. scan and put his essay up to show the class how their papers could look. He did cover his name, thank goodness, as this soon would have been so mortified he would have stayed home the rest of the semester.
