Ocean City, MD??

Recommended Posts

We're leaving for Ocean City, MD this coming Tuesday, for five days. Anyone have any tips for must-dos there? Ideas that are inexpensive would be much appreciated! So far we have planned: boogie boarding at the beach daily, building a big sand sculpture, a breakfast at Dumser's, two evenings at the boardwalk, Ripley's museum, walk on the beach at sunset, watching a sunrise, jogging at the park by the bay, a sundae night at our condo, and just spending time relaxing at the condo.

Any other suggestions??

Haven't been to Ocean City in years!!

(My in-laws used to have a condo there and it was a frequent vacation outing for us!)

You HAVE to get Thrasher's fries on the Boardwalk! They're superb and well worth the line that forms to get them! Another favorite of ours is Tony's Pizza.

BJ's on the Bay is a fabulous restaurant with a terrific view. Another great one is Fager's Island. Both would be fine to visit with children.

Have a great time!!

September is one of our favorite times of year in Ocean City. The weather and water are warm, and the crowds are at home (at least during the week). In fact we will be returning there in September for a couple of weeks of school in the morning, beach in the afternoon.

If your kids are the age to have read Misty of Chincoteague (and really even if they haven't) it is always fun to take a trip to Assateague Island to see the wild ponies, it is about 10 miles from South Ocean City.

Dumser's is a favorite for our kids, as is the ever requested trip to Candy Kitchen. They save their coins all year to spend at the Candy Kitchen in the summer.

If you are looking for a place to eat lunch or dinner or sit and have a drink we like Fish Tales at 22nd Street bayside. It is very much a flip flops and shorts kind of place (as most of OC is). It is a great place to sit and watch the sunset and to watch the boats come in from fishing trips. There is a fun sand playground with swings, a boat and hammocks which is right near the outside tables. We can sit and chat and the kids can play. It is crowded on the weekends but usually great during the week. They have a website (ocfishtales).

Bring your kite, there is lots of room on the beach and usually a great breeze for kite flying this time of year. Bring your binoculars, many days you can see porpoises from the sand.

Enjoy! Beach time is my favorite kind of family time.

Hehe. I haven't been there in years, but our traditional first meal when we went there was always Thrasher's french fried. I miss them!!
