Kfamily
Hi, I'm trying to use King Arthur and Ivanhoe as our two books for deeper study this year with my 7th grader. I cannot find any guides or even any lesson ideas for either of them. What literary elements could I draw out of these if I can't find a guide? I was thinking symbolism with King Arthur but where can find a guide or site that gives me some specific examples (I am reading it right now and about 1/3 the way through). What else could I draw from it? Any figurative language? Thanks! Edited August 20, 2009 by Kfamily

Jane in NC
My son read Ivanhoe in 7th. We discussed the book, but I don't recall any particular literary lessons. Sparknotes (click here) might help or this resource. Which tale of Arthur are you reading? My son read The Once and Future King in 10th. Again, you can find it in Sparknotes with suggested essay topics but this may be a bit beyond what you might want to do in 7th. I might be tempted to research some of the various Arthurian legends/theories which could lead to some interesting discussion. Jane
Kfamily
Thanks Jane! We're reading the version by Howard Pyle.
