BlessedMom
If you have used either of the evan moore "A Word A Day" programs or something similar could you please share your thoughts and experiences? Pros and cons? Did you use it as designed or in another creative way? These are the two books I have been considering: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1596734086/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=304485901&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1557998698&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1H1BZ1P5NYEGFFZ2JT6S http://www.amazon.com/Word-Day-Grades-1-3/dp/1557998698 Is there a similar program you would recommend? Thank you for your time and your thoughts.
Doodle
I own the book in the second link and love it. Last year I used it to introduce one word per week to my son. He just turn 5yrs old last week. He really loved learning new words. After introducing the word, we used foam letters and spelled/glued the word onto a piece of file folder cut to size. I then added magnets on the back and displayed it on the refrigerator. I made sure I used the new word frequently during the week. This year I will continue to use the book introducing 4 words per week with Friday being a day to review the week.
usetoschool
I have used it - like it fine but would add that you do have to add some activities and find ways to use the words. Just using the program as written isn't very effective.

lisasaysto
We have been using the second book you linked to. This is what we do: I say the word and the kids try to guess what it means, then I read them the sentence and they guess again. Then I read the definition. We answer the questions listed and sometimes talk further about the meaning of the word, but I don't plan anything other than what's in the book. We do one or two words a day and review previous words until the kids know them. I'd say we are generally reviewing about 10 words or so each time. My kids really like learning new words, so this is sort of a game to them.
