Mom2boys
I looked in the archives and didn't see an answer to this question: Is the Sonlight supply kit for the Apologia General Science experiments a worthwhile investment? http://www.sonlight.com/7SKA.html Would I be better off buying the Home Science Tools kit instead? http://www.hometrainingtools.com/general-science---science-kit/p/AM-KTGENS/ Or, are the materials pretty easy to pull together on my own? Looking for advice from those who have been there/done that. Thanks in advance!
ABQmom
I am wondering the same thing. Just today I started to order the supplies kit for Apologia Physical from Sonlight. The kit is about 16.00, and they would charge another 10 dollars for shipping. Is $26.00 for a supply kit worth it??
Pat in MI
I'm curious on this also. I like the idea of having most of the stuff available, but is there enough in the kit to make it a good purchase? Blessings, Pat
lisak
The alum and iodine are about the only items that you might need to purchase. Most everything is available at the grocery store or craft store/Wal-Mart. If you wish for a kit, shipping is cheaper from Home Science Tools, but the cost is a bit more than Sonlight. I have purchased a science kit from Home Science Tools for a different curriculum and they do a good job with shipping. It came fast and was nicely packaged. Actually you can buy alum and iodine at most Walmarts: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10535117 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10324543
Mom2boys
Buying packs of stuff for a couple of balloons, a few rubber bands, 10 index cards, etc adds up. It is probably a good value if you won't use the whole pack of all of those things. Good point.

I wasn't really sure what "alum" was. :D
Lori in MS
I found a kit for General science at http://www.christianbook.com for $74.99 from Nature's workshop. I wonder if it is worth it, but it has practically everything you would need except for perishables and large items. I am so busy teaching 5 kids I doubt I would go to the store to find all of the items. I was just wondering if you bought everything you needed for the year at one time would it be more than $75? If you had to buy packs of everything when you only needed a small amount I think it might. Has anyone done that? I would love the convenience of a kit, but wondered how much cheaper, if any, it would be to buy everything yourself.
Mom2boys
I did decide to buy a supply kit, but went with this one from Tobin's Lab: http://www.tobinslab.com/product/AM-7KIT It seemed like the best value for the money. Thanks to everyone who weighed in on this thread! :D
