Rainbows
Im going to order Essential Science and need to get books to go along with it. They originally called for the Kingfisher Human Body book but I can't find it, so I can get either the : --Usborne First Human Body encyclopedia Or --DK First Human Body Ency. I can't see them in person, so does anyone have an opinion on these that will help me choose? Also, I'm not sure which version of the Usborne Science Encyclopedia I'm supposed to get...the list says: The Usborne Internet-Linked Science Encyclopedia (age 9-12) but I'm wondering if I should have the The Usborne Internet-Linked First Encyclopedia of Science (age 4-8) instead since its for a 6 yr old
bairnmama
My dd really enjoyed using the DK First Human Body Encyclopedia. It actually covers topics more in depth than the Kingfisher one does. We were able to look at both in a bookstore before buying. Of course now I'm an Usborne consultant and I LOVE their encyclopedias much better! ;) Honestly though, it's been my experience that the Usborne books pack a lot more info into a much more interesting package. As far as the Science Encyclopedia goes.... My dd always wanted more info than the First Encyclopedia series gave her. If you want to take a peek inside both the IL Science Encyclopedia and the IL First Encyclopedia of Science, you can do that on my website. Just search for "science encyclopedia" and a page will come up with all of the ones Usborne offers. All 3 of the one's you're considering have a see inside feature that shows a sample 2-page spread. Personally, I like to buy a little over my dc's heads and let them "grow into" the book, than go with something they can grasp easily right now and have to buy a more in depth version later. HTH www.ubah.com/x2555 Please don't consider this a plug for my business - buy them wherever you like. You mentioned that you can't see them in person and this is the only way I know how you can get a look at the actual differences between the books. Pata
The Usborne Science Encyclopedia is the internet-linked one, but it's not scheduled until Chemistry for the Grammar Stage. It's optionally if you want to save money though and I think that it will be ok with a 6yo, but it's not the best option our there right now. As for the the Human Body Encyclopedia, I would go with the DK one. I'm waiting to see what Kingfisher is going to do with thier encyclopedia before I rewrite the plans. If they don't publish a new version, the new plans will use the DK encyclopedia. Hope that helps!
Rainbows
thanks :) How about the First Animal Encyclopedia.....should I stick with the Kingfisher one (lizard on cover) or get : ----the Usborne First Animal encyclopedia (http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Animals-Internet-Linked-Encyclopedias/dp/0794502156/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247688331&sr=8-7'>http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Animals-Internet-Linked-Encyclopedias/dp/0794502156/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247688331&sr=8-7'>http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Animals-Internet-Linked-Encyclopedias/dp/0794502156/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247688331&sr=8-7'>http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Animals-Internet-Linked-Encyclopedias/dp/0794502156/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247688331&sr=8-7) ----or DK first animal encyclopedia?
