I give up . . . Can you help me find this Geography?

Recommended Posts

I want three things from Geography studies:

1) learn general geography in terms of long/lat, land forms, map skills, all that stuff.

2) I want my girl to specifically learn the states, capitals, major rivers/mountains/landforms/et c. of the u.s.

AND

3) I want her to be able to draw the U.S.

Too much to ask?

Any ideas?

Something with a fun literature component would be great, too but I'm primarily concerned with her learning the above.

but they don't have all of those things in one book. THe Grades 4-5 book covers the basic stuff: maps, hemispheres, continents, long/lat, seasons, currents, etc.

The Grades 6-7 books covers North & South America. My ds13 is using this one, and I can't find it right now, or I'd be able to tell you specifically about whether or not there's an exercise in drawing the U.S.

I like this series much more than Evan-Moor, because it goes into more depth, and pure geography study, as opposed to mostly cultural stuff. It also has lots of juicy maps. I love maps!

I found a book/workbook today at our half price book store that has pretty much all of what you are looking for. It shows all the maps, has the rivers, etc as well as longitude, latitude etc. I provided the table of contents below. It was only $6.00 there but normally is $14.95.

It is The Complete Book of Maps and Geography, by McGraw Hill.

I plan on using this with my 6 year old probably over a couple of years (so that we can spend time on each state). It says it is for grades 3-6 but I think it starts off simple enough for my 6 year old to be able to understand and complete.
