funschooler5
I'm looking at grammar programs for my soon-to-be 6th and 4th graders. We've been using Write Source products, but the rules aren't really sticking. I've been looking at Growing with Grammar and Winston Grammar, and I can't decide! I have a few questions about Winston Grammar. If both my children are having a bit of trouble in this area, would I want to start them out on the Basic Grammar level? I can't seem to find any samples on their website, and I want to make sure this isn't going to be too easy (or "young") for my 6th grader. LUV2EDU
Quote: [Winston Grammar website] "Winston Grammar is the study of grammar in a way that is easy to use and retain. There isn't anything else added to make it confusing or harder than it needs to be. It isn't a complete English curriculum, though, so you would need to also have a reading/writing/spelling program." Growing with Grammar is a complete English curriculum. Winston Grammar does not cover mechanics (Capitalization, writing, etc.) **************************************************** Growing with Grammar Table of contents 4th grade http://www.growingwithgrammar.com/4rdgradestudmanindex.html 6th grade http://www.growingwithgrammar.com/6thgradestudmanindex.html ********************************************************* Winston Grammar Placement Test http://www.winstongrammar.com/placement.php Samples Click on "Additional Views" http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=24681&item_code=WW&netp_id=166187&event=ESRCN&view=covers#curr ******************************************************************************* Edited June 4, 2009 by LUV2EDU
HollyDay
We did Winston Basic in 6th grade. It only took us 1 semester. So, you could do both GWG and Winston. Winston Advanced in 7th took us less than a semester by the way.
HollyDay
One other thought, I did start Winston with my 4th grader this past year - second semester. She could do it, but she needed to move slower than my 6th grader did when she did the program
