Orthodox6
Last weekend I attended the area hs bookfair. One product for sale piqued my curiosity. What would "Bible-based Latin" be ? I was wholly puzzled by the advertisement. The Latin Bible with which I am familiar is the "Vulgate" edition. In everyday life, the authoritative Bibles for our family's faith are the Septuagint OT and the New Testament, both of which are Greek-language texts. TIA for any explanation ! P.S. (few hours later) -- This is not "a slam" at anything ! I'm genuinely interested in knowing what is meant -- whether it was just the common marketing strategy of emphasizing Christian viewpoint for an educational product, or whether there is a specific type of teaching approach used. KristenS
I'm no expert on Latin, but it's my understanding that ecclesiastical (church) Latin was somewhat different from classical Latin as it was actually used way back when. So maybe that's the difference.
Lovedtodeath
I understand that Church Latin has a different pronunciation.
Orthodox6
Oh ! You are thinking that the product might have been based on ecclesiastic Latin. Maybe using the Vulgate for reading passages? That could make sense.
Baseballmom
Without knowing the curriculum name, I don't really know. But my first thought is that it just refers to the primary use of the Bible as a main source of Roman culture instead of the emphasis being on Pagan myths as stated by one publisher. Just a guess!! frogpond1
translation easier. I appreciate that myself since I enjoy reading out of the Vulgate.
