IEW US History Based Lessons question

Recommended Posts

I know there are lots of IEW users here, so I have a question. I want to use US History Based Lessons with my son next year. Is the Teacher book absolutely necessary, especially if I have experience teaching writing? I just can't fit it into my budget, but will try if it is absolutely critical to the program.

Honest opinions, please!

I have it but I only sometimes look at it. You still have to reference the student book to even really know what is suppose to be taught. I haven't found it particularly useful but nice at times. It does have vocabulary quizzes. It is about half the size of the student book, to give you some idea. HTH

I haven't had any trouble without it. But I have watched the TWSS program and still have to look back to the TWSS workbook from time to time.

I wouldn't have given the vocabulary quizzes anyway, so that wasn't important to me. All of the vocabulary definitions are in the back of the student book.

I won't need the vocabulary portion anyway. Dd is doing Vocab. from Classical Roots.

If I purchase it, I plan to only use it for teaching the writing aspect. I want something to go along with our history studies, but concentrate on essay writing. Do you think the student book alone would suffice, then?

Thanks!
