  1. YES! I am convinced its a conspiracy to get me to renew my subscription. I used just super saver for a few years but since my trial I have gotten miserable service.:glare:
  2. I have a 6, almost 7 year old daughter who has been taking violin lessons since the first of Jan. She is capable of focusing and paying attention, but gets silly in lessons and wastes time. It is driving me crazy. Her teacher is patient and good about getting her back on track, but I want to teach her to behave herself. She knows what she is supposed to be doing and is old enough to make good decisions regarding her behavior. She has settled down a bit since the beginning, but it is still frusterating. I have taken away toys for not behaving, but while she makes it seems like the end of the world, in truth she doesnt really care. She is extremly strong willed and high energy to begin with. She is also VERY shy. I know it doesnt sound like those 2 things go together, but believe me. She hid herself in my skirt the whole first lesson. So she has actually improved! But she doesnt listen, puts her violin down and turns cartwheels, runs around the room etc. She has been "spoiled" a bit and allowed to get her way, way too much:glare: totally our own fault. But I feel like we are getting on track with a lot of things, but this I just dont feel like I have any idea what to do here. We have talked to her, explained why its important etc. I do feel like her teacher is a little too nice in still rewarding a lesson that I wouldnt reward(with a sticker). I hate paying for the time and "wasting" it. We are having to sacrifice to afford these lessons and she really really wants to play. She begged for a violin and I taught her myself for the first year until we could do lessons. Her older sister(13) takes lessons right before her. I have considered surprising them with a treat if they are good and work hard, but I would have to assume the younger daughter would not earn it the first time. Is that too mean? I really want her to know that I mean business and I just dont know what else to do. Some of it might be a show for ME and I have considered staying in the car. But I need to know what to do for practising reasons so I dont think that would work. Thank you for any ideas.
  3. Paneer was easy and FUN! But it is kinda bland. I definitely need a recipe to make with it now.
  4. Ok so I made a very yummy chocolate pudding sweetened only with honey. Rich but good! The paneer looks easy enough that I will probably try it. But I am curious how to eat it. Is it a spread or do you just eat slices/chunks? I have obviously never had it before. Also does anyone have a good recipe for a rice pudding or hot cereal? Something for breakfast preferably with honey or maple syrup instead of sugar. Thank you!
  5. I have several gallons I need to use asap. Already made two gallons of yogurt although it didn't turn out great. Kinda lumpy. I would love to try cheese but don't have time to order rennet. Any other ideas?
  6. Any suggestions? We have netflix, but thats the only paid subscription. I want to watch it tomorrow so dont want to wait for a DVD but if it is fantastic, I could wait till friday. Thanks!
  7. This has been an interesting and timely thread. The NYT article depressed me to no end:crying: I have had 8 babies in 13 years. My youngest is almost 2. I have always been a bit overweight, maybe 15 lbs before I started having kids. I am one that gains weight while nursing and since I have only been not either nursing, pregnant or both for less than 4 months in 16 years, well... the weight came on but never came off.:tongue_smilie: I acutally lose while pregnant. Once I gained 7 lbs the whole pregancy, the baby weighed 9 and I was 20 or so lbs below prepregnancy by 2 weeks. By 2 months I had gained that plus more back:crying: and my weight creeps up the whole time I am nursing. If I wean my littlest this spring and I am not pregnant, I am interested to see what will happen. Tha majority of it came on in the couple years following a full term stillbirth. I know some of my issue IS pyschological and that is why I was reading this thread. I keep hoping I will figure it out and be able to get rid of the weight and keep it off. The article depressed me because I am a busy homeschool mom of a large family, in addition to other things, and the thought of having to focus that much on keeping weight off really make me not even want to try. I cant seem to find a regular time to excercise and I certainly dont have an hour or more a day. Or I should say, Im not willing to give up other things in my life to make that happen. I also have to cook, mostly from scratch, for 9 people, 3 meals a day. We do not do processed foods, except occasionally. I am in the kitchen pretty much all day. Each time I have tried certain diets, like low-carb or whatever, I find it extremly hard to maintain long term while cooking for growing kids who are never full. Sigh. I wish this wasnt so hard. I have to say that those of you who have never been overweight really do not get it and it is pretty offensive to act as if you do.
  8. Ive never seen this website before or know much about it but what's the benefit? For the choir i mean. Are they paid?
  9. I need some support from moms who have done this. My 3 year old(#6 of 7) qualified for preschool for developmental delays(speech/language). He is severly delayed, no question. I do feel like he needs the services and we can't afford to do it privately. I dont do preschool, never have. Even before I homeschooled, I didn't. I have very strong beliefs that small children need to be with their moms on a daily basis. I have never worked outside the home(well to be fair I am now a midwife, but on a very limited basis and my kids are mostly either with siblings or dad when I am gone) or sent my kids to daycare/preschool. My oldest went to kindergarten, but we have homeschooled ever since. HE IS SO YOUNG!!! :crying: I dont want to send him away every day. Yes, its only a 1/2 day and only 4 days a week, but it still just seems like way too much to me. Speech therepy only is not an option as it is a language delay. This process has taken a few months of testing etc and I thought I was prepared. But they just called with his school assignment and asked me to go down and register him. I am a wreck. Tell me this is going to be ok. He will enjoy it and adjust to being away everyday. It wont tramatize him and he will get the services he needs. I just wish there was another way to help him and keep him at home. But I dont see a way. I have put this off as long as I could and he needs this. I know he does. But why does it have to be so hard?!?!?
  10. So how did they get diagnosed with strep? I mean with NO symptoms why were they at the Drs? Did others have it and so they were tested? Thanks for the thoughts.:001_smile: I'm going to see how she is in the morning.
  11. My six year old has started today with a hacky cough but no fever. She is otherwise fine. Running around eating etc. Would you keep them home from church/co-op etc? She does not seem sick at all but when she coughs every once in a while it doesn't sound great.
  12. Sorry. Its $900 a person. There would be 5 or 6 of us going and I included a cushion for food and sightseeing. Airfare, hotel, busing, some food and some sightseeing is included. 5 days from las vegas to new york. Does that still seem too much?
  13. Ugh. I despise fundraising. My son only went to Ps for 1 year and I do not miss that part!!! We do have to deal with it occasionally for sports teams though. But now my kids have a last minute opportunity to go to NYC with the local children's choir that they just joined. They really really want to go. They will need to earn the majority of the money ($4000-6000 depending on if dh and I go too) in 2 months. Help! We have thought of selling homemade bread(how much?),delivering phone books, corporate sponsorships as well as others. Just looking for ideas with a good profit that doesn't involve too much begging from the friends/relatives:tongue_smilie:
  14. Ok I realise I'm a little late on this. My 13 years old daughter just started her cycle. She knows the basics and we have a good relationship and she is open with me. But she seems a bit uncomfortable/nervous I guess and she is such a reader that I thought a book might be helpful. I read the reviews at amazon for the care and keeping of you and the emotions one and they all seemed to indicate they are better for younger girls. But she was/is a later bloomer and is a bit immature in that regard. I think she might still gain something from them but wish I had gotten them sooner. If its too late for these books are their others that are good? I would prefer a christian perspective on intimacy if its talks about at all(yes she understands about it we just don't believe it needs a lot of.attention yet) so.something focusing on young womanhood would be what I'm.looking for. Thanks!
  15. We just converted our garage into a playroom/school room/craft room and are getting it set up. I need a small table for 3 children to work comfortably, so the folding square tables wont work. I dont want to spend over a $100 on the nice ones with adjustable legs I have seen. I do not have any idea how to find a school suplus sale of some kind. Thanks for any other ideas!
  16. It was her big gift but was used off of craigs list so no warranty. The baby grabbed it and snapped off the top connecting piece. It is the lighted case for the keyboard and its $50!! I only paid $70 for the kindle plus the case. Sigh. Any ideas of what kid of repair place might be able to fix it?
  17. Oh dear. Thanks for the suggestion. When I couldnt find it at amazon i turned the box over and its actually called big game hunter 2012. Silly me!
  18. We were given this as a gift and haven't opened it yet. Is it gory? We don't allow blood and guts games but they do have star wars battlefronts so I'm not opposed to guns and shooting. I just wanted to check before we opened it. thanks!
  19. My family is learning a song and while we have the sheet music with the piano part,(and I play) but we want it to be portable(like for caroling) and I want to be able to sing too. Is there an easy way to make some kind of accompaniment track? I saw a software called make your own karaoke, but I dont know anything about it. The song is Peace, Peace/Silent Night and we have the version sung by Michael Crawford, so if we could just remove the vocals that would work. Thanks for any ideas!
  20. We draw names in our family(7 kids, 2 parents) for a handmade gift. It doesnt have to be crafty per se, but it does need to be well thought out, personal and not just a run to the store and buy something. Couple examples, the 14 year old fixed up a hand-me-down bike for the 6 year old. New inner tubes, basket, bell etc. She hasnt had a functional bike for quite awhile, so this will be much appreciated! He might even teach her to ride it :) My husband is putting together a small photo album for the 2 year old with family pictures and pictures of Jesus and such. Some things are sewn or knitted etc. The 6 year old girl has the 13 year old girl and I am gathering ideas to help her make a decision of something she can make. It could be something like a mug with a picture on it we have made, she doesnt have to physically make it. Does this make any sense??:) Thank you for any ideas!
  21. Thank you! I appreciate your thoughts. Ive searched threads and read reviews and am leaning to the Kindle Touch. If anyone else sees this I would love more thoughts!
