  1. Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Isaiah 43:2 "When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you."

  2. Really, really great ideas and encouragement - thank you! The reason my ds feels unprepared us because 90% of the 7 yr olds in his class know everything - the songs, the hand motions, answers to the flash cards and so on. They play games with teams and he can't help his team because he doesn't know all of the answers. He is very competitive so he hates feeling behind. :-(

That's very strange. At this age it's unlikely they've had the cycle before and if so, they were 4. You may want to ask your director. It's been made clear on my campus that kids are to come to class to hear the material for the first time. Otherwise they will act like smarty mcsmarties and it's a pain for the tutor. Mom then reviews at home. Now, maybe you have some overly ambitious moms who really work a lot on memory review at home, so those kids are really learning it at home and displaying the knowledge at review time. I would ask a mom or two how she incorporates it in to her day, how much time she spends, what's her technique.

I'm in my 3rd year now and definitely have a groove. Our first year we didn't know up from down. Actually I am directing Challenge A so not even all that involved in my son's CC and he has his own groove. It will come.:grouphug:

  3. One of my favorites that is super cheap is Cabbage and Bacon. I slice up the bacon and throw it in a heavy pot (like Le Creuset) with a sliced onion. Brown that for a while to get the grease all rendered and then throw in as much cabbage as you'd like. Stir and put on the lid. Steam/brown for a while, then stir and re-lid. It takes about 45 minutes for the cabbage to get tender and the bacon crisp.

    YUM

  4. There is a great thread going over at Low Carb Friends on nutritional ketosis. It's pretty much what you say, very low carb, moderate protein (just enough to maintain lean body mas) and very high fat. I have lost 6 lbs in 5 days.

I think fat is the key. Avocados, olive oil, butter, coconut oil, MCT oil, heavy whipping cream, mayo. I have never felt better in my life.

  5. Ohhhh, there is NOTHING like a great pedicure! They usually have massaging chairs!

Around here I would separate those two appointments. There is a local shopping area here where you could go to Massage Envy - very clean, upscale but not too pricy. A few doors down is a good manicure shop. In the same center is a Starbucks, always a prerequisite when heading for a mani/pedi! When you are done you can grab a frozen yogurt instead of lunch. Sounds to me like a wonderful day!

Look for a chain massage place like Massage Envy or Massage Heights. They are not a spa, so they don't upsell other services, and they have affordable rates for 30 or 60 minute massages. They cater to us normal folks, not the "spa" clientele. :tongue_smilie: Once you find something like that there is likely going to be a manicure shop close by, here they are in every single strip center.

  6. I had a good sized cheat day last Saturday. Ice cream cake complete with caramel and fudge sauce, chips, a huge bowl of very buttery popcorn. While it sounds nice, the results were not.

I was so swollen all week I could hardly recognize my ankles. I was headache-y and grumpy through Monday, and I gained 4 lbs that it took me all week to shake off.

No more cheats for me. It wasn't worth it. Especially that cake. It was sickeningly sweet and I didn't even enjoy it. But I kept eating it...

  7.

And, I don't quite understand your comment about vocabulary.
My comment? I didn't mean to imply that it's hard. So far I think it's about diligent memory work of the rules and paradigms. Not hard, but takes focused work. But I should bow out of this discussion because I am a new user to Henle and not well versed in learning or teaching it yet, so maybe I am not understanding your post.
  8. I've got 2 big bottles of vodka brewing into vanilla right now for Christmas. It's not too late to get them started. I ordered the beans from Amazon and bought the cheap vodka. I think the vanilla was maybe $25 and the vodka was $9/each...maybe...something like that. I will still have to buy some little small bottles to package it, but I found some on Amazon pretty cheap. I will get at least 10 gifts for less than $5 each, and WAAAAYYYYYY better than what I would have bought for $5 for these folks. I'm super excited about it.:D Oh, good part is that I will have some left for me too!

  9. What's that saying about being the change you want to see...or something like that. What I have found is that so many women's bible study groups kind of flounder into repetitive study of all these "how to be a better wife/mother" kind of thing, when what we really want and need is deep theological bible study. Maybe you can suggest some things to study that would mean more than yet another "how to have balance in your life" kind of study. Do a book study of the book of Romans, for example. There are SO MANY great resources for deeper study. I was getting really tired of those kids of studies I mentioned earlier in my group and suggested we do a systematic theology study. Everyone loved the idea. Especially because there is no homework, we can study what we want at home in our own personal quiet time, and come together to study theology.

Maybe they would really love it if someone suggested something stronger to study, and you would really feel like jumping in again. Your time would feel better suited to the relationship building and doing it through deeper study.

    Just a thought. :grouphug:

  10. I tried that. I did JUDDD for about 6 weeks and bounced around with same 2 pounds for weeks. It was very disheartening to watch the scale bounce up and down but never experience any real losses.

I don't think "for me" that adding in more carbs is the answer. Every time I do that it starts a cycle of craving that I have to work to get off again. Not to mention gains.

Now, calorie cycling I might try. Although the JUDDD down days of 500 were next to impossible. Do you think I could do a 1000 calorie day with a 1500 day? IOW, would that help, I wonder?

  11. My carbs are rarely ever over 25 net. My calories are pretty consistently about 1600/day. I drink 6 24oz water glasses a day.

If you were stalling, what would you look at? I thought maybe nitrates? Sodium? I thought if I had things like bacon, salami, pepperoni, sausage on a daily basis, maybe that's it?

My cheese consumption is limited to 4 oz a day, but I don't count cream cheese in that...should I? (seems like a dumb question when I type it). My stevia intake is no more than 4 packets per day (coffee).

My old self wants to reduce calories. I should resist my old self, shouldn't I?

  12. Tammy, those of us that were already on CCConected still are, but it was closed to new registrations while the IT team works on the new Portal. I understand it will be up and running very quickly. Honestly though, unless you are tutoring, you shouldn't need it much before the first few weeks.

Oh, and no one posts materials for sale there. It's purely a forum for asking questions about how to use or supplement materials and largely it's for tutoring ideas.

Sorry you have had trouble getting info!

  13. I've been LCHF for about a month. Lost 17.5 lbs. I am also hypothyroid so losing has been difficult, but it's happening. I did have a week long stall after week 2, so if you hit one of those just hang on.

My carbs are pretty ultra low. I finish the day at around 20-25 net. No fruit right now, but I will someday. Actually, if I was having a sweet craving (which hasn't happened in at least 2 weeks, I would eat a bit of fruit rather than raid the pantry). I focus on good fats: flax, olive oil, coconut oil, avocados. Bacon is it's own special food group. Steamed/roasted veggies. Salads. Protein. Lots of eggs.

Love it! The only sweet I have is stevia in my coffee. Will. not. give. that. up. :D
