  1. When is spelling typically integrated into schooling? I really don't know when this begins, grade 1, grade 2? Thanks!:)
  2. Great! I have gone crazy and ordered it! My dd is totally into art... any shape, form, or fashion so, I imagine it will be a hit here. Thanks so much for you replies!:)
  3. Has anyone used this art program? Just wondering if you liked it and would recommend it. I would be using it with a new 6 year old. Thank you!
  4. You may have already considered this but, have you looked at the Adventures program from MFW?
  5. Campmom, That is tempting but, I think I am going to hang on to it for now.:)
  6. Donna A., Thank you so much for taking the time out to share what you did, I appreciate it! (Thank you all!)
  7. Just adding, that I too, have heard about fraud issues with Grace Academy as well.
  8. May I ask... Are the stories/fairytales included in the pockets? Meaning, would I need to have the stories in our home library already, to go along with the pockets, or do the pockets have the stories printed within them already? Thanks!
  9. Thanks Betsy! I had wondered if the CM influence might have "upped" the age rec. for this program. I am thrilled to hear that it may work just fine with a 6-6.5 yr. old. Interestingly enough, we will be coming from SL as well, as we are just beginning Core K (alongside another program) and I was hoping to utilize MFW Adv. upon completion of it (them). We are blowing through both programs so, I started looking for what we would do next. Adv. really looks like everything I wish for in our next program.
  10. Thank you all! I am considering it for my dd who is reading well but, I wouldn't consider her fluent. She has much progress to make in that area before I would even begin another program. I was thinking of possibly beginning it within the next 5 or 6 months after we finish our current program (HOD LHFHG). I just wasn't sure if it was even appropriate for a first grader who is reading and writing well. I appreciate the feedback, knowing that it can be done as long as she has some essential skills in place at the time. I will take a much closer look at it now.:)
  11. Would it be ridiculous to consider using MFW Adventures program for a 6 year old first grader? I am considering this for the future and wonder if anyone has sucessfully used it with a first grader. I own the 1st grade MFW program and it is not what I am wanting to move forward with. I appreciate any comments, opinions, whatever! Thank you!
  12. I would be interested to hear from others about these two programs as well.:)
  13. My dd (5.5) is in the same boat. I have decided to stop OPG for the time being and I am just having her read what she is comfortably capable of. That means that we are simply reading all of the "level one" super basic books such as Nora Gaydos, Bob Books and SL K readers. It got to the point where anytime she was asked about how she liked school, she would say, "I like it except I don't like reading." Or as the other poster mentioned, my dd would hide as well when it was phonics/reading time. I just feel like this much resistance is a red flag that we need to cool it for a bit so she can gain some confidence and basic fluency through reading simple stories. Its hard because I know she is capable but she just is not quite ready yet, and well, thats okay. My main objective is to cultivate a love of learning and reading and I know that I will have to achieve that in baby steps.
  14. A friend of mine recommended Singapore Nursery Art (books A & B) for my 5 year old. She loves it! It is quite simple but very creative and engaging. They also have a K level. You can view samples at CBD.com
  15. Thank you ElizabethB, that was very helpful. Anyone have an opinion about the Rainbow Rock CD? I have my shopping basket ready, just not sure if I should go ahead and order the RR CD. Thanks for any help!:)
  16. Also, wondering if the Rainbow Rock CD is worth getting? Thanks!
  17. Thanks Alice! That was very helpful. Regarding the Intensive Practice Book, I wasn't sure exactly what you meant by doing it a step behind what your ds is learning. Does that mean covering concepts that he just recently learned? Sort of using it as a refresher or practice of previously learned concepts? Sorry if I sound confused, I usually am! Thank you for the info about facts review, I appreciate that.
  18. ...to make everything complete? I'm rotten at math so, I want all the help I can get to teach the Singapore way, not my way, lol! This is the plan: IA Textbook 1A Workbook 1A HIG I have plenty of manipulatives, if needed. Anything else? Thank you!
  19. I have heard this mentioned a couple of times, can someone explain how they are similar? Thank you!
