  1. My oldest son did W&R Fable last year (3rd grade).  I talked with a CAP rep at the Expo and we decided based on my son's writing ability he should skip Narrative 1 and go to Narrative 2 for 4th grade.  He's about 2 lessons away from completing it so I'm planning to order the next level. But I'm looking at samples of Chreia & Proverb.  It just doesn't look all that relevant to me writing skills wise.  What is the need for this book or could we skip ahead to Book 5?  Is that a huge mistake?  Will the skills in Chreia really be skill building steps?  I'm sure they have reasons for what exists in that level but I'd love to know the thoughts from The Hive.  Seems like when I've read posts here about W&R a lot of people jumped ship at Chreia but I like what I see in the future books.  So advice from those who have BTDT or have more insight.  Thanks!

  2. Well I don't...yet...since my boys are still elementary age! Right now one wants to attend my alma mater and the other wants to attend my husbands alma mater. I am curious if they'll stick with that when the time really comes. I'm sure I'll research whatever they do choose thoroughly.

  3. I think I've already changed my mind. Now I'm thinking...

Math: Beast Academy finish 4 and start 5

    Spelling: AAS

    Language Arts: ELTL 4

Writing: Writing and Rhetoric books 5&6

    Latin: finish GSWL

    Logic: No idea!

Science: Science in the Scientific Revolution

History: BF Early American History Intermediate or possibly just SOTW 3.

Science and history are the most up in the air!

  4. My son has done Fix It and ELTL. I was planning to switch him back to Fix It next year just to shorten his day a bit but he says he likes ELTL better. I've never used the writing program from IEW. So while I'm still not totally sure what I want to do next year I will keep his opinion in mind. That's probably not helpful to you but figured I'd throw it out there.

  5. I'm debating history for next year. We are reading SOTW 2 (medieval) this year. We started with Wayfarers but dropped it because we just couldn't keep pace and are just reading SOTW combined with written activities (sometimes just writing, sometimes fun things like making a newspaper story, etc) after. I'd like to do a little more in depth history next year as we enter the early modern history time period.

What is your favorite for this period?

I've looked at Prairie Primer and Beautiful Feet Books Early American History Intermediate level. My boys will be 3rd and 5th grade.
