  1. I bought a vacuum that my kids like and they vacuum for me every single day. And when they are being difficult they get to vacuum extra. We mostly have hard wood and laminate but the rugs get vacuumed everyday. I feel you though. The previous owner put white laminate floor in our kitchen/family room. I have to sweep several times a day and wipe it down at least once a day to keep it looking decent.

  2. I’m a former teacher and so is my mom and my sister in law is currently a teacher. This is not the norm in any of the school districts I am acquainted with. Yes, teachers spend their one money on books and various other supplies but not seats or things that you are mentioning and certainly not half a salary. Yes, it adds up, but what your describing is insane.

  3. I’m surprised at the number of people that would not give a bed. I received a bed from my parents when I was a kid and I was perfectly happy with it. (And it wasn’t even brand new) I might include a fun sheet set to make it a little more exciting. Just be careful because I have seen a number of polyester kids sheets out there lately.

  4. I understand these concerns and I think it is a good thing to think about. However, the reality is babies have been born on the street and died and if the baby doesn’t die it is immediately taken from the mother and put in foster care. Babies in foster care are at a huge disadvantage to those that are immediately adopted. Further, in my state people are not lining up to be foster parents to drug addicted babies. There is a huge shortage of people willing to foster any kids. Yes, a drug addicted newborn is more “desirable†to most foster parents than a teenager but there is still a shortage. Further, the baby is not going to be a newborn for very long the average time a child is in foster care is 2 years so the baby is going to quickly become less “desirableâ€.

  5. Look up Lead Safe Mama Tamara Rubin. Her children were lead poisoned and she is an expert in everything about lead. She has so much information and is my go to person. I’m so sorry this happened. Also, did the doctor do a actual blood test with a vial or did they do a heal prick/ thumb prick type test. If it was just a thumb prick type test, you should request an better blood test and I would request retesting in 3 months rather than 6. 6 months is a long time to wait if you don’t know what the source is and she is potentially being further exposed.

ETA. I would also test the soil around your house, or where she might play and your water

  6. I have made weighted blankets for my kids. I made one when my son was 2 that he still uses at 8. It was only 7lbs but it is still reasonably effective. My daughters I made when she was 4 and it is 10lbs and is all still very effective. They are pretty simple to make but get heavier and more unwieldy as you add the poly beads.

  7. That is beyond dumb. And surprising, because usually Kohl's is really customer-friendly. ARGH!

I have never found Kohl’s to be customer friendly but that could because after the first terrible visit, I have rarely gone back.

I’m glad your experiences have been better than mine.

  8. I have been talking to a friend who’s son, with ADHD did neurfeedback and they had great results. He is now totally off his meds and has been off of them for a year and is doing great. I am beyond thinking there is a magic pill or whatever but I’m curious to hear anyone else’s stories.

    Thanks!

  9. Oh I’m so sorry. What a pain. If you want to try something for the next wallet, Iï¸ got a tile and it works great. Iï¸ left my wallet at target and the next day Iï¸ realized it was gone Iï¸ had no idea where Iï¸ had left it. Iï¸ checked the tile app on my phone and it told me where Iï¸ had had it last and then when Iï¸ went into target Iï¸ had it start ringing and it was right in the customer service drawer. Obviously it won’t stop theft but if it is just forgetting or losing, it worked great.

  10. We keep it around 60 day and night during the winter. At long as Iï¸ am moving around I’m comfortable. Iï¸ do wear a hat often and wool sweaters and long underwear under my pant but Iï¸ would need that when Iï¸ went out anyway so Iï¸ might as well just put it on in the morning. When I have to sit for a while Iï¸ drink tea to stay warm.

  11. Eveyone who has gotten sick so far was over 50. I’m sure what ever you child has is more than likely just a regular virus. I would not be worried. Think of how many people have gotten ill. It’s only a handful, think of how many people have been to disney or are in Anaheim. The chances are minuscule. But I am sorry your kid is sick and I’m sorry you are worried about it. Hope your child feels better soon.

  12. You might want to look into Collaborative problem solving. Look up the think kids website. The idea is that kids do well if they can and if they are not doing well then something is getting in their way. It may sound touchy feely but there are some kids that you can’t discipline/punish/ reward into good behavior and CPS is evidence based and can be used regardless of diagnosis.

  13. So we did foundations d after C and then moved on to essentials. Although my child could read pretty well after C, I like the spelling and reinforcement in D. The readers were on the easy side for him at that point but he liked them. Then we did move on to LOE essentials and I’m not sure how I feel about it. We are about halfway through the book and I have used it quite differently than recommend. There are three spelling levels in each lesson and the idea is to work through either the A, B, or C list depending on your child’s level. Well my child is at a lot higher lever in reading then he is in spelling or writing so I work through the A, B, and C list in each lesson. The A and B sections are mostly review and reinforcement. The C list in new and harder stuff but works well as a challenge. I’m not sure I recommend this method. But it has worked for us and I plan to finish the LOE essentials vol 1 like that. I’m not sure what I will do after that.

  14. So I realize that this is not what you are talking about (I read the link and I have heard and seen this) but my daughter found a beautiful blue pumpkin at the pumpkins patch and ran quite a ways to claim it. It is one of a kind. I guess it happens every once in a while but there were no others in the patch.

Also, although I don’t have a teal pumpkin sign I do have small toys as an alternative to candy
