  1. Mommyof1: your dh is not asthmatic and still needed breathing treatments?! 😨 man that's a rough virus! I have to avoid breathing treatments if at all possible due to SVT. I came this close to using an inhaler last winter when I just couldn't breathe. But I didn't want to end up in the ER so I didn't do it.

Critter: I'm sorry your dealing with this never ending sickness this time of year. It sounds awful. 😞

We are hosting family here today. I have been baking and cooking all day Friday, Saturday, and a little bit yesterday. I cleaned the living room and kitchen yesterday but they have accumulated things again already. That's the problem with cleaning ahead of time with little kids. Oh well. I'll get them on tidying their messes. I still need to clean the entry and 2 bathrooms.

  2. Yep, Scarlett, they do! The 2nd batch baked for 12 minutes at 350 and they were great! Dh was home by then and he tried one from each batch and said the 2nd batch was much better.

I feel silly not realizing they were underdone but I've never made these before and I don't recall ever eating one either, so I wasn't sure what I was going for with color or texture. 😲

Hive to the rescue! Thanks guys! Too dark to take another picture but I might have to post a picture tomorrow when all the cookies are done! 😉

  3. 3 cups all-purpose flour sifted

1 1/2 cups finely ground blanched almonds

3/4cups confectioners’ sugar plus 1 cup for rolling

    3/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2cups unsalted butter room temperature

    5teaspoons vanilla extract

    1teaspoon almond extract

Here's the amounts the recipe gave if that helps. I'm so annoyed. Especially after the ration vanilla thread! Lol! This used FIVE TEASPOONS of it!!! 😰

  4. Uggh, Mommyof1! I dread having to get out the breathing machine! Your poor baby!

Today I planned to finish out the week with one more effort with school. Probably just memory work, math, and language arts. If the kids wanted science and geography they can unschool those subjects with books, videos, the talking globe, etc. But I have to make cookies today. Lots and lots and lots of cookies.

And 2 people in this house are still snoozing away. The other 2 are showing zero interest in school. So who knows?   I'm making cookies. And maybe 1/2 day homeschooling. Maybe not. 😂👍

  5. Everything in my living room is used. But from a friend that was replacing their furniture and from my grandmother that does a better job of keeping up with style than anyone else I know and updates often.

In the situation you describe, and if you were able to go into the home to assess general cleanliness, I'd go for it. I have a few friends that have bought used couches, bedroom furniture, and even mattresses used from strangers in upscale neighborhoods without any problems.

  6. I don't know, Critter, I would think you could get out of the family thing with how crummy you are feeling. 😞 Take care of yourself.

Full school day here. Memory work ✔, spelling ✔, grammar ✔, handwriting ✔, math ✔, geography ✔, science, piano practice, art.

We are taking a lunch-chore-exercise break now and I'm contemplating how much of a winter break I want to take.

My first thought is that I want a really long break. Involving the beach. But that's not going to happen and the kids fall apart without structure so I don't know. Maybe shorter days with a 4 day weekend? I tried to cut out science and geography earlier this month and just do math and language arts but they revolted. Lol. Those are their favorite subjects, what was I thinking?! 😂 Last week they had 3 days off unplanned due to life stuff. So we're not overdoing it, I guess.

  7. Everyone is dropping like flies around here! No good! 👎 I hope everyone feels better quickly!

I managed to get through math and language arts yesterday and that was it! I was done talking for the day!

I was out of renewals on some of the library books so I just drove to the library and put them in the book drop and came straight home! The gas probably cost more than the fine would have, but I hate library fines. Feels like breaking the law or something, lol! 😂

Today was a little better. Dd had a public speaking assignment tonight so we spent a lot of time prepping for that. I took her but I left the other kids home with dh. Now I'm all keyed up from being out late. I really should go to bed though.

  8. Mine was given to me as a gift. I'm still on the fence about it.

It does turn out out great grains, potatoes, mac and cheese, and hard cooked eggs.

However, after a year of owning mine, I've only got one entree recipe that I like. Butter chicken, no less, so, not the healthiest dinner. 😊

Ribs and chicken breasts had a rubbery texture. Dishes that need the flavor melding thing, like spaghetti, teriyaki chicken, chicken lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, and orange chicken did not get the flavor melding thing. To me, it tasted like the ingredients were thrown together and warmed up.

I was just given the America's Test Kitchen electric pressure cooker cookbook and I am going to try their recipe for chicken tortilla soup this week. I have their New Best Recipe Cookbook from years ago as a wedding gift and I use it often. So I'm hopeful that they will be my ticket to Instant Pot success!

  9. Critter- I woke up with a sore throat yesterday morning. Its no fun, that's for sure!

I'm going to push through feeling crummy and shoot for a full school day today. Plus we have library books to return this afternoon. Its easy to sit at the library while the kids play and grab stacks and stacks of books. 😊

Now I just need to figure out how to do school without talking... 😂

I won't lie.  Her teen years were ROUGH.  Although I suspect that my having babies through those years didn't help (hormonal teen and pregnant mom with a 1yr old in the house=recipe for an explosion)

(Mental note to self 👉 Don't get knocked up again.) 😂

I guess at some point, the mom's job is to listen and support while they work through those experiences. It sounds like you've been a great supporter to your dd. I bet you were over the moon proud when she graduated college!

    OMG, I WISH I knew.  She's 23, I still can't figure it out.

I *think* its some internal black and white....what's right is right, what's wrong is wrong and grey doesn't exist.

Ok, your posts are scaring me! My dd is 10 but everything you've said about your dd sounds just like mine! I feel like I'm peering into the future here! 😱

  12. Well, I only have 3 so I don't know if I'm allowed to give advice or not but... I will anyway! 😂

Only because I, similarly to you, needed my 3rd to arrive on a certain weekend between dh's (super important for our family and completely unavoidable) business trips. I was determined he would be there for the birth.

So I walked. I walked and walked and walked. I walked our neighborhood Friday and Saturday many, many times and labor woke me up at 1am Sunday. Baby was born at 11:06 am Sunday! Dh left for his trip on Wednesday!

I have no way of knowing if that was when baby would have come anyway or not but, I needed to do something that felt like I was letting my body know it was time to let go of baby. It occupied my mind while I waited.

Good luck to you, your dh, and new baby! The last one really tugs at the heart. 💞

  13. Day 2 of Crazy Days is done. Today was much better, productivity-wise, but mostly because we had back-to-back-to-back-to-back appointments.

Then we had to clean the house for guests tomorrow afternoon because there is no time to clean tomorrow morning thanks to another appointment and several errands to do. Gah! I'm tired! Lol!

My house looks great, though! I will thoroughly enjoy the clean house for as long as I can. 😊

  14. This week just exploded with busy-ness!!! 😨

We managed memory work, 1/2 math lesson each and a handwriting lesson each. Ds also got spelling and grammar done.

Then relatives came over for a visit bearing gifts, which was unexpected and super sweet of them.

The toddler got sick out of nowhere. That cost me $15 for a PJ Masks app so he would calm down. Terrible parenting, I am sure, but wow. It was rough. 😥

I still have a bunch of laundry, chores, homemade soup, and homemade cookies to get done today. Full days the rest of the week so the household stuff really needs to get done today!

  15. Lodge cast iron skillet.

A 5.5 quart dutch oven and a 2.5 quart dutch oven. Staub or another good brand mentioned here. Someone gifted me a Pioneer Woman 5.5 quart and the enamel has chiped off the bottom exterior in a few places and its only 2 years old. The small one was also a gift. They got it at Big Lots of all places and its actually great. Totally no name brand whatsoever but it has held up well! No scratches or chiping or anything!  I use it almost daily, when I didn't think I'd use it much because its small.

A silicone basting brush. I had a bristle one previously and it was probably cheap but the bristles came out of it very easily. The silicone has no such issue and washes in the top rack of the dishwasher comepletely painlessly.
