  1. I sometimes think there should be a parent's bill of rights. My kids can be mean to me sometimes!

There is. It's called the Fifth Commandment

    104. Q.What does God require in the fifth commandment?

    A. That I show all honor, love, and faithfulness

to my father and mother and to all those in authority over me,

submit myself with due obedience to their good instruction and discipline,

and also have patience with their weaknesses

and shortcomings, since it is God's will to govern us by their hand.

    Ex 21:17; Prov 1:8; 4:1; Rom 13:1, 2; Eph 5:21, 22; 6:1-9; Col 3:18-4:1.

    Prov 20:20; 23:22; 1 Pet 2:18.

Mt 22:21, Rom 13:1-8; Eph 6:1-9; Col 3:18-21. Heidelberg Catechism

  2. Valley of Vision is great. I gave it to my dh recently, and he loves it. Just wanted to mention that Nancy Leigh DeMoss from ROH is starting a series on Song of Solomon. You don't hear many preachers tackle that book :001_cool: . I think it will be a great study. I was able to attend one of the live recordings last May when she was on chapter 6.

As I was pasting the link above I saw that Nancy mentioned VOV in her broadcast!

  3. I won't be a part of derailing this thread, but I have strong opinions on the matter, including the idea that people didn't think fetuses were humans. I'm dying to know what this means, but not on this thread.

Yes, most people have strong opinions on it. There's nothing wrong with strong opinions. But as you know, strong doesn't have to mean unkind or insulting (I'm not referring to your posts).

Because of my background, I already know what many religious people believe about SLED and other points mentioned in the article. I thought with so many references to morality and women's equality here, along with the fact that I recently read that article and it was fresh on my mind, led me to ask the question.

I didn't know that only people with certain views were allowed to ask questions and discuss things here.

That's not how it is on the other social groups; now I know.

  4. Sorry, I can only write on the forums after supper, so there are always huge gaps between posts.

I can understand why no one would want to talk about abortion. No problem. I used to think that those who had no qualms about aborting the preborn held that position because they didn’t think those children were humans. But now with all the advances in science and technology and the proof that the preborn have feelings and are, in fact, just mini-version of ourselves, I was intrigued when I read that article and considered why there is still so much support for it. Since I believe people of all faiths (and none) have a moral compass, I was interested in your thoughts, too. [i only mentioned that the author is Christian so that anyone who wanted to avoid the article on that basis could do just that w/o opening it].

You're all safe; I don't see the droves of prolifers swooping in to cause havoc :driving: Carry on.

  5. Well I don't think I'm 100% Reformed either and I'm not sure that I agree with all of the 5 points of Calvanism(especially 1 in particular), but since this is the closest social group on here to what I believe I want to join the conversation. ;) As long as they let me anyways. I'm also interested to learn more about what Reformed means.

By number 1 do you mean Total Depravity?

  6. Since the topic of abortion/equality for women (and also Christianity) have come up several times on this thread, I'm wondering if anyone wants to give his opinion on this article written by a Christian? If not, that's fine.

I guess my question would be: when people talk about equal rights for women (regarding reproduction), is it like this: "Women should be no more encumbered by the consequences of an unplanned pregnancy than men"? I would like to hear what non-Christians have to say about it.

  7. What I don't understand about the whole argument about only finding morality in the bible is how people make that claim when:

    1. We have documentation of hundreds, maybe thousands of cases of child molestation by the catholic church

    2. We have Westboro Baptist. That whackjob isn't reading from the Koran every weekend.

    3. We have ministers who have shot people, had affairs with their parishoners, embezzeled money, etc. etc.

And on and on and on....How many Xtian televangelists in this country have been caught with hookers and/or Bentleys again?? So when I hear that argument I chuckle. At least give me something challenging!!!

Have you ever done a study on the visible/invisible Church? That might be challenging!
