  1. I used Prima Latin and now LC1. LC1 would be better if I had actually taken Latin as a student and we've tried the DVDs, but found them dry. I'm ready for a change. For a 6th grader, does anyone have any Latin programs that are good for the parent who wants to learn along with the child? Thanks for any suggestions. Katie
  2. In the Great Illustrated Classics series, there is a picture on every 2nd page. The left side is text and the right is a picture. The spirit of the story was intact and at a level where my daughter really understood the main story. I love Jane Austen! :)
  3. I'm not sure about these. There is a decent Pride and Predjudice in the Great Illustrated Classics series. My 9 year old loved it last year. HTH
  4. Saxon K is good for that age. It does basic calendar stuff with the meeting book and the lessons are all hands on. I have found it to give a good foundation of the basic concepts needed for more advanced math in the upcoming years. HTH
  5. I spelled Pianimals wrong in the previous post. Website is http://www.pianimals.com
  6. I have a similar background with flute. We have used Pianamals for 3 years now and have loved it. It is basically self-teaching and I have been very pleased with the results. After we finish these books, I plan to move on to Bastien. HTH
  7. I got my student texts used on Amazon last year for a good price. I really enjoyed using them and so did my kids. Not sure where to find samples. HTH
  8. We use the ETC books with Hooked on Phonics and early reader type books. I know there are other programs that are similar to HOP that other families like. I personally use the ETC books as supplements. HTH, Katie:)
  9. so it sounds like it will be worth the investment. Thanks again, Katie
  10. It is a very gentle approach to teaching piano/keyboard. No previous music theory experience is needed to use them. Let's Learn Music workbooks are an inexpensive way to teach basic music theory.
  11. I have used them and liked them. They are an easy way to see if the child has picked up the main points. The questions are well done in my opinion. It was a good alternative to narration on some weeks when my dd just wasn't into doing another narration. HTH
  12. Saxon K is a very gentle approach to math with no workbook pages involved, but the child gets all the skills a normal Ker needs. I have done Horizons with K, but I don't think all the writing is necessary unless the child really enjoys doing workbooky stuff. The main point to me is getting the concepts down-more writing can be done later. This is all just one mom's humble opinion, of course. :)
