  1. Heavenly Father, we lift up eaglei's son to you.  We ask that you touch his body from head to toe, to give the doctors wisdom in the next course of action, and give eaglei and her family peace and comfort as they wait for encouraging news.  Amen

  2. We ended up selling our extra car when we had 4 years before our oldest would have been old enough to drive.  Then, when the time came for needing another car, we wish we had the one we sold.  But 4 years was a long time.  As others have mentioned, our teens hate to drive the minivan - too big to park and see around for a new driver.  We just bought a used car for $5,000 - so if you can sell you car for $8,000, I agree with a previous poster to pocket the money and save up for when you are really going to need it.

  3. . . . one of mine narrowly missed nationals. This year they want to study harder and try to qualify. I'm guessing we'll put in a few hours a week reviewing and studying this year on top of the normal study. The test covers the study, the verses memorized, cross references in the study and verses, and "more"... It's very thorough. :-)

I hope we both make it!  Let me know if you qualify.  It would be fun to meet up with someone.  I'll PM as questions come to mind.  Thanks!

  4. FriedClams, nice to know your family has participated twice.  This would be our first time.  I understand they are doing it differently than in previous years, but based on your experience, can you tell me how this works.  The study is from John 1-6 with the test on Aug. 1.  Will the test cover more than John 1-6?  Will the passages they give you to recite (which I guess you don't recite for the test) also in John or another book of the Bible?  And then, is it true if you are selected to go to nationals you get an entirely different set of material to study and memorize?

  5. Has anyone here participated in the Bible Bee and actually had a child qualify and attend the national competition?  We'd like to know more about how much it costs to actually attend the national Bible Bee competition.  It seems quite expensive for just airfare and hotel costs alone.  Any cheaper options?  I'd love to hear your experience with this.

Info is at www.biblebee.org if anyone is unfamiliar with this.

  6. Singing the praises of AWANA here.  My kids started as 3 year olds (Cubbies), and my youngest will finish at 18 this month earning her Citation award.

  7. If your kids are too old for playgrounds, then maybe they don't need as big a yard as you think.  Also, if they are approaching the teen age, think about how fun it would be to have pool parties at your house.  That would be a draw from a social aspect.  Also, is this a "forever" house?  Is it possible you could move there and then look some more?

  8. Oh and my mothers mom was named....Fanny. And they discussed that too. I dodged some bullets with their name choices, for sure.

My mother's mom was named Martha Frances and she went by Fanny like your grandma.  My mom's name was Frances Roberta and went by Frannie.  My middle name was Frances - was because I don't use it anymore.  That tradition putting Frances somewhere in the name had to stop.

I do like my first name.  My dad named me after Susan Hayward if anybody remembers that actress.  The other choice was Beverly Jean, so I'm pleased with their final choice.
