  1. I buy the Udi's brand frozen.  I let it thaw on my counter when I bring it home from the store.  Once thawed, I separate it into two slice "groups" and put a piece of parchment paper between them.  I then either put it in the fridge if I know we will be eating more sandwiches than normal, or I put it in the freezer.  If I put it in the freezer, I pull out two slices the night before and let it thaw in a baggy overnight.

I have had good luck with the bread in the fridge staying fresh and not getting moldy M-F.

We've lived in our house 21 years and had to replace the spring on ours once.  I think I'd assume that something was out of alignment on the door and is putting more than normal pressure on the spring if it was going out that often.

Have you had it repaired by the same company each time?  If so, I think I'd be suspicious of poor quality work or shoddy materials.

Yes.  I think we need to try a different company.  My husband is stubborn though and won't change.  Plus the company claims replacing it every 2-3 years is normal and he believes them over me because "it's their job". ?  So...we are left to argue you about it every couple of years.

I'm going to share your responses with him, and I may call around myself and ask a few questions.  Happy to know I'm not crazy (at least about this...).  ?

  3. The spring broke in our garage door over the weekend.  We have been in this house for 16 sixteen years.  In the last 10 years, we have replaced the spring every 2.5 years (roughly).  This is the fourth time it has been replaced.  I think this is ridiculous.  My husband thinks I'm crazy.  I have never seen any of my neighbors replace their garage door springs in the last 16 years, and I'm home all day long so I would likely notice the van in front of their houses.

Thoughts...am I being ridiculous or is shelling out $250 every two years to repair this ridiculous?  How often do you need to replace your garage door spring?

(We have owned two other homes for a total of 12 years combined and never replaced the spring in either of those doors)

Good news! I finally ordered my first progressives! I decided to go with the main pair, get used to them, then order the workspace. Hopefully both will be fine, but it was just the advice I got. I figured it takes so little time it's ok. I went ahead and picked out the frames for the 2nd and had them marked, so it will be easy.

I had the lenses remade on my computer or workspaces glasses.  Oh my gosh, they are going to be life changing!  lol.  In all seriousness, I can see my computer screen while it is sitting on my desk without having to awkwardly move my head to strange and uncomfortable positions.  Yeah!

  5. I'm thinking about starting some freelance work to earn extra money.  I'm interested in writing, editing, virtual assisting, and accounting.

I feel a bit overwhelmed by all the information that I find on the internet.  I swear it is a full time job just weeding through everything.

If you freelance, I'm curious how you got started.  Did you just signup on some of the various freelance sites, start a website first, or what???

In another life before kids and homeschooling, I was a Certified Public Accountant but it's been 18 years.  I did not keep my license current, and I'm honestly not even sure if that is what I want to do.  I would love to write or edit.

    Any BTDT advice?

  6. I'm a little behind on my planning for this year.  ?  Dd is going to do an elective on global issues.  I will admit that I am terrible at pulling together courses on my own.  We are planning on watching a lot of documentaries and Youtube videos, reading news articles, watching world news, and discussing.

Has anyone done a course of global issues?  If so, did you have a particular book that you used, format, or other great ideas that you would be willing to share?

ETA:  We are starting with climate control.  We have already watched Before the Flood and Chasing Ice.  Any recommendations for additional documentaries or resources on climate control appreciated.  Thanks.

  7. Today was our last chance to win tickets.  We were callers #3, 4, 5(x2), and just a simple try again x 2 so I assume somewhere before #9 again.  ?

So...I decided to order tickets and we are going to Kansas City.  She had no idea I would do this and never asked so she was pleasantly surprised. And shocked.

We will have an interesting week though.  Tomorrow we fly to Cincinnati.  She has a Dr appt on Thursday and minor outpatient surgery on Friday morning.  We fly home Friday night and should be home around 10 pm.  We will then need to drive to KC sometime Saturday.

Our connecting flight is through O'Hare so please send prayers our way for the surgery, and that we make it home Friday night without any cancellations or delays due to the storms down south.

Thanks everyone for your help!  You Ladies rock!!?

Or is it the opposite, with big reading area at the bottom and just a dab of intermediate at the top? https://www.zennioptical.com/workspace-progressives  Here's a link with the pictures. I also noticed that Costco does their workspace glasses with an intermediate range as well, so that's a totally different design.

And yeah, that's what I've been concerned about. I think the near vision boost for reading is a fuzz too much for computer, meaning a larger intermediate area makes sense for computer. But for working with ds on his school work, a larger reading area with only a smaller intermediate area makes more sense.

I personally wouldn't want to try to mess with figuring out the progressive heights myself.  I get a 30 day guarantee at my local Lenscrafter's store and the extra cost of letting them deal with it is worth it to me.  I do buy the best lens I can with the extra wide viewing area.

Looking at the website you linked, I would want to go with the Near Range Progressives.

Yes, this is it! So is your computer a big area on top and the reading a thinner area at the bottom? Zenni offers it two ways and I've been trying to figure it out, lol.

Yeah, I think so.  The progression is "slower" over the whole lense.  I tried them last night and couldn't read my computer on my desk unless I tipped my head down.  I tried moving my computer to several different heights and distances.  I think I need to take them in and have the progression adjusted some.  Reading was awesome though!

  10. I like my progressives.  I just ordered new glasses two weeks ago and I ordered what they call a "computer pair".  I think it is the new term for reading glasses.  They have a larger area of the progressive correction so that I can read and use the computer without having to tip my head up or adjust to find that small area for reading in my regular glasses.  I just picked them up today, so I haven't had a chance to really try them out.  They don't work at all for distance.

So I now have three pair of RX glasses 1) every day pair; 2) sunglasses; and 3) computer pair.  It was expensive but I think it will be really nice to have the third pair.  I often found myself taking off my glasses when I was reading and just trying to squint.  I never spent very long reading.  ?  It will be nice to be able to use the computer at my desk as well rather than having it in my lap so I can see it.

  11. Are you going to a Tayor Swift concert anytime in the near future??  If yes, this Momma could really use your help.

Backstory-My dd16 has spent the last two weeks trying to win tickets from our local radio station to her concerts in MN & KC.  There is no concert scheduled for our state.  She & I have called every two hours for the last two weeks and been caller #1-5 multiple times and also had that never ending ring that no one picks up.  We need to be caller #9.  She is trying to win tickets not because she wants to see Taylor but because her opening act is Camila Cabello who is my daughter's favorite artist, and she really wants to see her Never Be the Same Tour.  Camila has inspired her to take guitar lessons and has her thinking about becoming a song writer.

Anyway, it doesn't look like it is going to happen.  Taylor tickets are out of my budget this year.

In addition to seeing Camila play, she REALLY wants one of her She Loves Control red hoodies.  We have looked all over the internet, eBay, and Amazon.  The only way to get the sweatshirt is to attend the concert.

If anyone out there is going to a Taylor Swift concert where Camila is opening, is there anyway you would be willing to pick up a sweatshirt for me?  I would love to surprise her with it.  I would pay you for the sweatshirt and shipping thru PayPal.

  12. ???  Oh RootAnn!  You have made my day with this thread.  This is hilarious!

I am not a college football fan but live in an area that lives and breathes their college football team.   I am so over the Scott Frost hype, and they haven't even had their first game.  It is going to be a long season...
