  1. My 81yo MIL is having hip replacement surgery right now. It has taken years to get her to this point (many delays due to mild sickness and infection) and we are hopeful this will help relieve some of her pain. If you are so inclined to pray...her name is Joan and she is in Albany, NY. My FIL could also use prayer for strength as he cares for her.

Math is done, and the littles are organizing their toy tubs - on their own volition! I am almost done with the kitchen. A few things to bring downstairs and one more counter to clear.

My older 2 are helping run a summer day camp for the children of Kurdish families while their moms take English classes. Today is the last day and after cleaning up they get to go out to eat at a Kurdish restaurant. Wish I could be there!

    For Today:

    Email - lesson schedule

    More orchestra arrangements/repertoire decisions

Start going through boxes in the Dining room (misc. school things from last year)

    Drink water

    Lunch - egg sandwiches, peaches

Dinner - ham and veggie casserole

GL with your MIL.  I hope the hip replacement really helps!

  2. Good morning!

I will!  I'm feeling rather energetic this morning.... You know, as I'm still pregnant and all. :p ;)

What I'd LIKE to do today:

    Consider giving birth

    What I WILL do today:

Make breakfast  - done - smoothies & baked oatmeal

    Pay bills this afternoon.

Paint the hall or possibly another wall in the living room?  I really like the Vintage Mauve I used on one wall and  I'm thinking of painting one wall at a time until it's too much, lol.

Finish painting the dining room - 1/2 of one wall left from running out of paint.

Plan which lit books the middle girls are starting on this AM - running to 1/2 Price Books this afternoon.

Eye appointments - three of them today for three cute little girls, all of whom desperately want glasses.

Plan supper. I'm out of wood pellets so I'm actually going to have to cook.  Sigh.

Plan Costco trip for tomorrow night so the children don't starve when I actually DO have the baby.

    Trip to the PO

JoAnn's for fabric for a blankie for a dear friend who had a cute little girl.

You're so funny!  And, you have too much on your to do list!  I think you should stop after paying bills.  :)

  4. I would love to do some research like this. I really liked regular ancestry.com but didn't have time to research what I wanted. I still don't but find it fascinating. I love that show who do you think you are ( or similar title?).

  5. What a big life change! I used to live in the mid Atlantic north of DC and would visit as much as possible. There's so much to see and do, not only there, but a lot of big cities are close enough to visit for the weekend, like Philly, Hershey and amish PA, beaches, mountains, etc. Even NY is close enough if you have a few days off!

I would talk with older DS about the situation. If you'll be near DC for 3+ years, then I would not break up the marital home. Discuss living on campus if possible with DS, and considering changing universities if necessary if it's too much pressure. You can establish residency in the meantime in a different state. He could go to college in NM and then transfer, pull out now and go to a new univ after applying near DC, go to local comm college and transfer, take a leave to explore DC with you for a semester, etc. I had a few friends at univ who grew up where the college was but didn't have family nearby (the rest of the family moved away) and they did better than I did, a new transplant who never lived there before.

    DS 15 I don't have much advice.

DC and the area is expensive so start thinking about downsizing stuff to fit easier in a smaller home, consider renting out your home, etc. Also I don't know about your weather supplies, but consider getting cold weather things on clearance where you live and bringing it if the job will pay for relocation. Consider nice thick lined or double lined jackets, lots of layers, hats, gloves, etc. I think the weather is nice but if you're not used to winter it may be a challenge.

One thing about the areas I found is that some things were more expensive but others were less. In general if you can skip the highest rated school areas you can also skip the higher priced homes, maybe. There will be state income taxes too. IDK if NM has them?

In general I really liked living there and moved away only to be closer to family. I loved and now miss all the cultural activities, diversity, weather, and proximity to lots of fun things! GL with it all.

  7. Hello, I started going through fly lady.  I did not sign up for her e-mails because I almost never check mine and hate "spam".  I just look at her website multiple times per day.

Question 1) Do I HAVE to have the e-mails?  I ordered her book from the library but I'm still waiting on it and will read it when I can.

Question 2) When do you do the detailed cleaning for each zone?  The daily to-do lists don't really mention the time dedicated to this, unless I'm missing it?  I'm still early in the decluttering period but there's no way I can wait to have everything decluttered before starting on actual cleaning so I need to clean too.  Meaning, she states to just focus on decluttering but I can't as I have to clean too for family and company.  Are these detailed cleaning things covered in the daily to-do lists or is that on top of what she says to do daily?

    TIA!

  8. Though pretty expensive, we finally bit the bullet to get a gym membership with child care. However much I want to just bike around with the kids in the neighborhood, run, or exercise when DH got home to watch the kids it wasn't working out (so to speak).

I do elliptical work outs for 30-45 min, then machine weight lifting for 15-30 min x 3-4 days per week. We after school and during the school year we walk the 1+ mile round trip daily. Eventually we will bike to school but DC aren't there yet. I use my fitness pal to just record weight amounts so I know how much I am lifting at each machine I use. But the app also allows you to record food, aerobic exercise, etc.

Honestly, the child care has been the biggest motivator for me! And our gym has a huge indoor slide system for older kids which the kids love too.

ETA: - saw your other replies and realize this won't work for you.  I'd say look into a fun sport you may want to try that's nearby: karate, archery, swimming, dancing, etc?

  9. I have in pantry a mish mash of dry, canned, jarred, breakfast, kid snacks, and bulk ingredients, as well as clean bibs and food storage bags, juices, and beer. :)

Cupboards house spices near stove. They are in ABC order in shoebox containers x 3, plus honey, vanilla, and cinammon, oil, cooking sprays out (in cupboards but not in shoebox containers).

Baking supplies all in separate, remote cupboards, with DH snack foods.

  10. I'll try but if I'm currently awake it's looking pretty slow:

ETA: fell back asleep thank goodness!

    To Do:

    Exercise I hope -- done!

    Groceries I hope -- done!

Make appt with serviceman -- done!

Make appt with PT -- nope

    Hwt/read aloud/reading/sight words/vocab? --done!

Stretch goals: arrange for birthday party -- nope

Flylady -- decluttered for an hour, changed sheets, dressed to shoes, cleaned sink, laundry x 2 loads!

Buy new toilet piece -- done!

    Done: dishes

one load of laundry so far

    made lunch

have dinner idea x 3 nights

    dressed to the shoes

    Groceries

Flylady is confusing but I think I'm finally starting to understand her system.

  11. I love the fall season but don't have it where I live. Any shows or movies off the top of your head that feature autumn? Halloween themes are ok but I'm hoping for a variety. Please limit recs for scary/horror unless they're Awesome. TIA! I know it's deep in the summer and I'm trying to mentally cool off or at least escape!

  12. I've got one of those, but we're doing Saxon 1 so the crayons are for ME!!!!! I'm sure I need the 64 pack with the built in sharpener and it has to be Crayola because the others don't smell quite right. ;)

    I'm such a dork.

Has to be crayola! I got Walmart crazeart brand and the crayons are so waxy they don't even color the paper! Never again.

  13. If it can be grilled, I will grill it.

Greens, summer veggies and other garden delights (waiting for the purple tomatoes to make their appearance at the farm stands...!!)

    Summertime summertime sum sum summertime.

I love eating grilled food, but I hate the heat. Therefore I only eat grilled when someone else cooks it.
