I would not take this to reflect on the quality of the department. Whom exactly did you email?

Thank you. I was hoping you would weigh in.

I initially emailed who admissions told me to email.  Then when my son and I got no response via call or email, I emailed admissions again. Admissions emailed the Academic Services Director, College of Engineering and Computer Science and that person emailed me, and I emailed her back. It's been a week and I haven't heard back from her.

Honestly though, when my son called, he went through a couple people before being put into someone's voicemail.

Is it possible that whoever it is you have been corresponding with thinks that they should be dealing with the student rather than his parent?  That doesn't explain no one calling your son back, but then, people have issues with phone calls these days.

My son has an email with the institution since he is an accepted student. They haven't emailed him either.

I would expect a much quicker response with a smaller school.  The lack of response would definitely concern me with any school, though.  I would think they would be courting admitted students and I would be thinking this is a bad sign for current students.  Can you look at student reviews or on reddit for how the department generally works with current students?  Is there a parent page on facebook or somewhere you can find that kind of information?

Your impression is mine as well.

I need to do some research on parent groups, etc. I have looked at some Reddit stuff. There isn't much out there.  I will look on FB.

  4. Background: smallish school--around 7K attendees

My son is an admitted student to the department.

We set up the campus tour with no issues. Similarly, disability department was responsive and set it up with no issues.  (visit is in mid March)

My son's academic department has yet to respond confirming a time.  Per the direction of the admissions folks, I emailed on 2/12. No word for a week. So my son called 2/19--he talked to someone who put him in someone else's voice mail. He left a message. We heard nothing for five days. I emailed admissions again. They emailed the department--someone emailed me and asked what our schedule looked like for the visit day. I responded that day. It's been a week and I have heard nothing. I did follow up with the person on Tuesday this week as well.  I emailed admissions again today. (Oh, and no one called my son back)

I am really at a loss. Our experience with college visits is really small--we have only been to two--and they were larger universities than this. But it is worrying me, and I just need some BTDT input on if it really should worry me.

    Thanks Hive.

  5. We finally scheduled a campus visit for one of my dc's schools. He has never been there. Trying to schedule a departmental visit has been difficult though. I emailed right after I scheduled our regular tour, and then a week later my son called, and then a week later, I emailed admissions because we had heard nothing. I finally heard from someone that day who asked about our other appts for that day, and then heard nothing for three days. I emailed her again yesterday. I am a little worried.

We are still waiting for additional scholarship awards at his top two schools.  It seems so weird to not be more certain of things right now. Hopefully the campus visit will help my son evaluate the schools against each other. They are super different.

  6. For forensic science, we need ulna measurements and heights for various persons to make a graph to see if we can predict actual height from ulna length. We need data for grown teens or adults.

I need: gender of person, ulna length (in inches or cm), height of person (in inches or cm)

To measure ulna:  Ulna length is measured by raising the nondominant arm so that the palm is across the chest and the fingers are pointing upward to the opposite shoulder. Using the tape measure, measure the distance between the point of the elbow and the prominent bone on the outside of the wrist.  Record all data to the 0.1 cm (or fractions of inch).

You can Pm me if you'd rather. Thank you!!

  7. In general my dh and I are conflict avoiders. As our counselor aptly put it, "conflict avoidance IS conflict."

A few years ago, we had an actual yelling fight. It was the product of bottled up issues, not necessarily the issue at hand in the discussion. I became flooded emotionally because I couldn't get away, and I lost it.  The good thing that came out of it was it pushed us to counseling.

I can't speak for anyone else, but based on my experience, I am wondering out loud if this is the case with you.

One thing our counselor talked about is something called "negative sentiment override." I had never heard of it before, but when she explained it, that was definitely where we were coming into counseling.  It is basically where you get to a place where you no longer believe the best of your spouse.  You can Google it and see what you think.

  8. OP, did you find something? It seems like the prior posters started with Calc 3, but if I am not mistaken, you need Calc 2 as well.

Cool Math Guy has Calc 2 and 3 but they are not dual enrollment--it would be very similar to Derek Owens. The trouble is I can't find anyone who has used him.   Thinkwell has Calc BC.

  9. Nothing to do with the shelf, but regarding replacing your mixer:  If you search, there is a thread on here where America's Test Kitchen did not recommend Kitchen Aids for bread mixing because the motor can't take it. It was something about KA saying they didn't recommend using the mixer at a certain speed over a certain number of minutes which meant that breadmaking was out.  So I would not replace your current mixer with a Kitchen Aid if you like it and it works well.

  10. It used to be that the Easy Walk Harness had a guarantee and if your dog chewed through it, they would replace it for cost of shipping. Now it says, "If your dog does chew the harness, we will replace it for a small fee."  https://www.petsafe.net/media/downloads/ewh-easy-walk-harness-manual_2.pdf

That said, we have used it since the beginning and it is great. We only put it on him for walks or car rides.
