  1. La: Mcruffy SE, AAS, EIW Math: Mcruffy color and CLE Science and History k12 Bible:lifepacs and kids daily devotion Artistic Pursuits Horizons Health
  2. k12 science k (very watered down) Hop math Big dissappointment After reading this I guess we can easily assume 100 ez lessons aren't so easy or useful. Glad I never tried it.
  3. Explode the code is a inexpensive painless phonics program. How about using free supplements? I have used soundcityreading.com, progressivephonics.com,starfall.com,readingbear.org,funfonix,firststepreading , and spencerlearning.com.I think I would use freebies to figure out where she needs work and then find a formal curriculum that meets her needs.
  4. I used Mcruffy science and really liked it. I guess I just wish there were more visual elements of this curriculm like videos or books. What grade level are you using next year? I have used k and dc loved it.
  5. How does this compare to other math curriculum you have used? I like the looks of it. I 'm thinking about using it for extra practice because the curriculum I use jumps around alot.
  6. I hate my Science curriculum and really need suggestions for grades 1-3 science. We are currently using k12 and though we just started it I feel like it is very simplistic. My dc don't seem to mind but I don't feel like they are learning anything. What is your favorite science currculum for elementary? I have heard great things about Nancy Larson but can't get over the price.I also heard about Elemental Science but know nothing about it.
  7. (( Creekster519)) It seems that great minds think alike. I am using Mcruffy LA 2nd grade next year along with AAS Te only and adding in EIW to supplement writing. My dc wre doing fine with Mcruffy spelling but I wanted to focus on spelling rules and Mcruffy writing was a bust for us. So we will be giving EIW a try.
  8. I would just skip it but soundcityreading.com and progressivephonics.com are free supplements that are great for practice.
  9. Oh, I just wanted to add the the sample pages provided at Mcruffy. com aren't really enough to show off the curriculum and the scope and sequence doesn't show everything that is taught. For the last two years I have purchased supplements to use along with Mcruffy only to find that I don't need them. The grade one curriculum is weak in the writing area but for all I know it gets better in 2nd grade. I should be starting 2nd grade in a few months so I will find out then. I found that there is too much I like about Mcruffy to drop it for the small annoyances that you will likely have using any curriculum. All I can say is that it really worked well for my dc and I will use it from K-2.
  10. They do have a black and white version. They are the older version. They are not the same. The multi- colored font didn't bother me at all.It actually was useful.I have two dc on the same grade level and It was easier this way. I would have one dc read a blue sentence and the other read the red. It was easy to tell them to use the words in t he yellow box. It just seemed to work well for us this way.
  11. I didn't even know k12 sold the te for literature. I am using k12 for History and Science. I am paying for online use of the te. I was under the impression that k12 te where only available online. Can someone explain to me how it works? Can you purchase k12 LA without doing it online? If you purchase the student pages and te will you be missing anything if you don't use k12 online? What grade levels are available? If you start using k12 literature in 2nd or 3rd grade will you be missing things taught in previous levels?
  12. I purchased Mcruffy color math for my ds after trying to teach math on my own failed. He was frustrated and in tears daily. I figured I didn't have to use a formal curriculum for kinder but I was wrong. He didn't recognize numbers and couldn't count to ten when we started Mcruffy.I picked this curriculum because it looked fun and it met my states standards. It is a spiral method and teacher intensive.Worksheets are colorful and there is alots of hands on activties. There is no testing or drills. Concepts are not meant to be mastered daily but by the end of the course they will be. It is stress free. The lessons are short and easy to teach and understand. I have used k and I am currently using 1st grade. I would call this a very gentle math program.Mcruffy isn't as advanced as other math curricum from k-3 but by the fourth grade it catches up to the more advanced math curriculum. My ds now loves math and is thriving with it. I saw an immediate change once we started using it. Lessons are so simple and short that a mathy kid could get through this curriculum twice as fast. One complaint some user of Mcruffy have is that it skips around alot and it does. I guess they don't get how it works. It is meant to be stress free. Concepts are mastered overtime not in a week or two.It worked well for us. Samples are available at Mcruffy.com.
  13. I used Mcruffy se phonics for k and grade 1. It is available at Mcruffy.com. I really love how gentle it is on the k level. I actually started my ds when he was preschool age. It is open and go easy to use and great for a new homeschooler. There is a little prep especially on the k level. You have to make sliders and cut flashcards. K level introduces only a few sightwords. So, I thought it was important on the k level to add a few more in myself. Though if you use it for grade 1 alot more sightword are introduced. The phonics is a bit advanced for k level but really gentle. It includes daily handwriting assignments but they are very short. It starts out with just writing letters, then a few cvc word, then one sentence is added. It is all in one phonics, spelling, and handwriting. I think this would complement ETC nicely. We really loved Mcruffy for k. Math and Science the on k level were also a big hit with my family. All 3 subjects were covered in 2 hours. My dc loved all 3 subjects for k. Grade 1 is the same format but it increase in difficulty. Instead of one worksheet daily there are usually two. Grammar is included but it is very gentle. Spelling words and list get longer.Handwriting asignments stay the same. Readers are alot longer in grade one. Flashcards are no longer used much but sliders are used just not as often as in k. New sightwords are introduced weekly. Some spelling rules are introduced.Creative writing is introduced but really there is not much teacher help for this. There is a one page that tells you how to explain the writing process. Then they give you a story topic and they are expected to write a story. This is the only area in my opinion where Mcruffy is weak as an all in one. I plan to supplement with Essentials in Writing next year. My dc are doing very well with this curriculum but to be honest the don't like to read at all. I don't blame the curriculum. They are able to read very well and we are only halfway through grade 1.They love Mcruffy Math for k and grade 1. They loved K science but we switch for grade 1 because we got another curriculum for free.We really miss it and will probaly use Mcruffy science again for 2nd grade. Oh and here's a list of sites I used to help my dc learn to read: soundcityreading.com, progressivephonics.com,starfall.com, firststepreading.com,readingbear.org, funfonix and spencerlearning.com
