  1. If it is anything like my library system then there are four circulating copies of the book you have on hold. So the one that says 2 of 4 is stating that 2 of the four copies are on hold, you and someone else have placed holds on those books. Your not in line before or after the other person because there are 4 copies so you will each receive your hold when they are transferred to your libraries. Does that make sense?
  2. We tried HWT and my dd couldn't write on lined paper after that to save her life! We tried ARFH and my kids just don't get those silly starting dots. They seem to always think they are the top instead of a starting point. So we tried Zaner Bloser workbooks I got for super cheap. I like this style and we will stick with it but they use those dots too! So Pentime it is...the samples don't show the dots so I hope it doesn't have them. Maybe the dot thing isn't a problem for our children though :/
  3. I've used the Scotch laminator to laminate a ton of the COAH K5 and LOTW stuff...so lots of laminating! It has worked great and my local Walmart carries it for the same price as Amazon. I buy the cheaper laminating sheets off Amazon though, a couple different brands, and have never had any problems with them either.
  4. My dd will be starting first next year and I have everything planned out theeennnn I came across Winter Promise Animals and their Worlds. She would LOVE this!! She is animal crazy and throughly enjoys learning and interacting with any and all animals. My problem is this is an expensive program and I haven't come across it used with all components so even with a used instruction guide by the time I get everything else... Also the reviews for WP aren't great and I am worried I won't like the program for many of these reasons...inaccuracies, errors, not well put together. We just started watching the Wild Kratts episodes and I was thinking we could study the animal on the video for the week. I also have Confessions of a Homeschoolers animal packet ( which I honestly haven't looked at it yet.) I guess what I am trying to find out is whether there is something similar to the WP program out there for significantly less or even free. I need things laid out for me. I can improvise and add but I need a plan otherwise I will go all over the place. (Kind of like I am now) I am not looking for this to be anything particularly ie, science study. Just something fun where she can learn about animals and their habitats. I know going to the library and reading is the best way to learn but like I said I am worried we will be all over the place and not actually get anything accomplished. I guess I also feel like I need some kind of student book to track our progress and as a record for myself. Am I making any sense here!?!? Does something like this exist? Should I just tear my eyes away from WP and try this on my own? I really fear it won't get done if I have to make plans myself for it every week. Thanks in advance for any help!!
  5. Thank you all for the replies. Looks like we should go with SOTW. Thanks for the link also.
  6. Trying to put together my K and 1st grade curriculums but I am still unsure of what to do for History. Seen a FB topic the other day where people were referring these 2 (story of the world and mystery of history) over and over again. We like workbooks but also dictation and we are big on doing "projects" if you will, based on things we have learned. Anyway, the people posting kept stating that these 2 curriculums work well together. One being more biblically based and the other getting more into the guts of history. I love this idea but I am concerned about spending so much just on our history ($66 for one and $50 for the other plus a little more for the extras they recommend.) Anyone used these together? Were they easy to combine? Are both necessary? I am new to HS so I am also open to suggestions for K/1st grade history curriculum.
