  1. I always forget about looking at TWTM. I'll pull that out. I have Spielvogel's Western Civ, Winston Churchill's History of the English Speaking People's, The Story of Mankind, A Student's Guide to US History and that's about it. I know I'll need to buy a few more books; probably a few biographies and maybe historical fiction.
  2. Help me put together a World History course for my soon to be 9th grade ds. He is an avid and very capable reader. I want to do an Ambleside Online/Charlotte Mason type schedule using books I already own. I have no idea which books complement each other and which ones would be redundant or how to even figure it out. I'd like to tackle the Renaissance to Reformation era. Any ideas? Anyone have lesson plans they'd like to share  Or maybe come to my house, look through my books and type up a lesson plan :smilielol5:
  3. I don't know what your budget is but Bravewriter.com has some awesome online classes. The classes are around 6 weeks or less so it's not a huge commitment. Julie gives wonderful feedback and is available by text, phone call or email. It's a really different approach to writing and took some time for me to get my head around it but it seems to work for my son. You could email Julie to see if she has any suggestions, she is very helpful. Check it out! http://www.bravewriter.com/about/why-brave-writer-works/
  4. This was VERY helpful! Thank you for posting! Your spreadsheet is awesome :thumbup1:
  5. Wow! Great blog with tons of information from a very intelligent mom!
  6. You use AO the way I'm trying to use it! I have a hard time plugging in my own books, I'm just never sure how many pages to cover.
  7. How do you decide which year to start your child? My dd just turned 10 and I am looking at Year 3 or Year 4. What have been some of your favorite books in those years? Have you added or substituted any books? Any good websites that were helpful for using CM/AO?
  8. What does your day/week look like? I've looked at AO for years and have collected many of the books but I've never jumped in and tried it. If you follow CM pretty closely would you mind walking me through a typical day or week?
  9. Is there a good book or website on seed starting? I've used the little peat pots and they seem to get moldy. I'm just never sure if they are warm enough or wet enough. One of these years I'd like to be successful at this ... lol. I'm in NE Ohio and we have pretty whacky weather most of the time so I need to maximize the growing season. Any tips would be very much appreciated!
  10. So how much do you tip? Is it based on a % of your order or just a flat fee?
  11. That sure is a lot! I like all the choices. Do they help you choose according to your students needs?
  12. :bigear: Hoping you get some more replies. I'm considering Bridgeway for ds, also.
  13. My 9 yo dd and my 10 yo grand dd both want charm bracelets for Christmas. Any idea on a good place to find them? I want to get them something decent that will last at least a few years.
  14. My brain isn't working :confused1: 3X - 8 = 7X + 12
  15. Nice site! I'm looking at Matthew 25: Ministries, it looks pretty good http://www.m25m.org/.
  16. I got a World Vision catalog in the mail today and was wondering if it's a good company or not? Is it worth it to donate farm animals to impoverished people?
  17. I am going to sign my 13 yo and 9 yo up for Brave Writer online. I'm just trying to figure out which one to put my 13 yo in. I'm thinking "Kidswrite intermediate" since he can write a couple fairly decent paragraphs on his own? I've read the class descriptions a few times but I'm just not sure. I was considering the poetry class and maybe the grammar class for both of my dc. Anyone have experience with the classes and can help me out? :confused1:
  18. I know Kilgallon has been discussed in depth here, but I have searched and can only come up with one thread. Would someone just tell me which Kilgallon for an 8th grader, who speaks very well but has hardly had any formal grammar study? Could you also tell me if Kilgallon is enough on its own for grammar?
  19. For some reason it says I "cannot start new topic" on the For Sale board. I have well over 50 posts and I've posted stuff there before. Help me ... :crying:
  20. I've read several posts about people using Jackson Spielvogel history textbooks for high school history spines, but which one? I looked on Amazon and there are quite a few. I was thinking about "Western Civilization: Brief Discovery Edition" ISBN-13: 9780495093640.
  21. I was wondering what you went with. I think you'll like it. It gets a little preachy, but sure gives you a lot to think about.
  22. Have you read the second book yet, The Twelve? I just got it at audible.
