  1. Giddyupgrl I am watching this thread as well. I have a son who is 10 and is also a very weak writer. For what it's worth we have some friends who have been using Jump In and like it. I'm looking ahead to see what would be a good start for next year. This year we will just work on writing book reports.
  2. Thank you all for your help. I had a feeling that we might need to start with Level 1, but was hoping that it would be 2. I think I will try and email Marie and see what she might advise.
  3. I have a 10.5 yr. old son--5th grade, that I've hs since kinder. Language Arts is definitely not on his favorite list nor is Spelling. We have used A Reason for Spelling, different lists, and last has been Spelling Power. I have not been happy with any of them really. None of the prior programs have seem to help my son that much. He is a hands on learner. He loves and does very well with MUS. I've been doing some reading on these boards and I am thinking about switching to All About Spelling.:001_unsure: My questions are: 1. Do you think AAS would be a good match for him, if not any suggestions? 2. What level would you start with--Level 1 or Level 2? He can spell the basic 3 and 4 letter words. 3. Looking for used AAS--where would I go? I've looked here already. Thanks so much for your input. :bigear::001_smile: Jen
  4. Thanks Angie that spelling website looks neat. I'm going to try it out with my son this week.
  5. Take a look at Mystery of History for your son. I started it last year with my son and we are doing it again this year, we did not make it through the book. We are kind of slow when doing history. It has a really good timeline suggestions and it seems to help the material stay in my sons memory bank, if you know what I mean. ;) It also has different levels of work to do so you can tailor it for your son. We also supplemented Mystery of History with the History Channel as several times there were shows about what we studying. One comes to mind is the Boudica the Warrior. :001_smile: Jennifer
  6. :iagree: I would recommend Math U See. It is a very good curriculum with manipulatives for hands on learning.
  7. Hi, I am Jen and have a ds(10). We've been homeschooling since Kinder. We live about an hour north of Dallas in Frisco. Really new to the forum and posting. I've been reading for a couple of months, but just registered today.:D
  8. Hi Tiffani, I just joined the forum today after reading your post. I've been a lurker for a couple of months soaking up the great ideas/suggestions on this forum and greatly appreciate them. I have 1 son who is 10. From your list of 15 character traits I can say that my son has 12 or 13 of the same ones. Socially he loves people as does your son and will talk to anyone who will listen. We say he is the "comic of the family" cause he tries to calm things down with making us laugh. There are a few other character traits that my son exhibits as well. He has a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome. I homeschool him and he receives Speech therapy from our local school. There are many very good websites/books on Aspergers. One I would definitely recommend is THE OASIS GUIDE TO ASPERGER SYNDROME by Barbara Kirby as a good place to start gathering information. Jen
