DS16: I wish we could go on more field trips. I like them.
DD13: I wish you would teach me to draw. Me: I can't draw! You already draw better than I do! Her: Well, how about you crochet with me more? And can we play more board games? Me: Sounds good.
DD11: I can't think of anything.

Jean, you need a Speed Queen washer, stat. No computers. Does an excellent job washing clothes. Has a good warranty, too.
As for me, I had to take the cat to the vet this morning for an abscess (grrr....) so I am now $200 poorer, plus I need to figure out how to keep him inside for the next 10 days. Oy vey.
I will probably only get the bare minimum done today.

Very interesting and touching essay. The alumni certainly have a lot of wonderful memories.

Are you kidding me?! My goodness, that is so rude of those girls to cancel. And I'm a little suspicious of the party being scheduled for the same date. I hope your dd has a fabulous time regardless. :grouphug:

Thanks! I've been messing with it all night and I can do a little chain. I'm having a lot of trouble doing a single stitch, however. I'm left handed and holding everything backwards from the pictures/videos. Is that going to cause a problem? I've made my chain extremely loose but every time I try to do a single stitch to add a row, it gets really tight really quickly. Could it be because I'm trying to do it backwards or upside down?
I'm not a lefty so I don't have advice, except can you see if there are any tutorials for lefties? Also, crocheting that first row into the chain is usually kind of a pain. Once you get past that and get started on your next row it should go much easier.

I recently purchased a couple of these dolls for two relatives who both had babies turning a year old, and they both told me that their girls love them.
Also, the Fisher Price Little People were always a hit with my kids. Some of the old-style FP toys, like the Chatter Phone and the Xylophone are fun.
Something like the Playskool Busy Poppin' Pals is usually popular.

Crochet is not that hard to learn, at least to get started with. Check your library for kids' books on crochet. Teach Yourself Visually Crochet is a good book too. America's Crochet Book is an older book with black and white photos/drawings but I found it very clear at showing the stitches. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube as well. CrochetTalk.com is one channel that shows how to make basic stitches. Red Heart Yarn is another channel with lots of tutorials, especially on using some of the specialty yarns.
Start with an inexpensive acrylic yarn and get a set of hooks - G, H, I, J - would be the most common sizes. A scarf is very simple to make - you can make one with just a chain stitch and a half-double crochet. Dishcloths are really easy too - just a chain stitch and a single crochet (use cotton yarn).

Aaaaah! Your poor kids! That must have been terrifying. Hope they are all doing OK now.

WOW Such pretty things! You guys do inspire!
All I have managed this week is to finish my DSs christmas stocking.
I am working on this sweater for myself http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cotton-raglan My DH bought the yarn for me for my birthday to make it.
I also got a little more work done on my DHs stocking as well. I spent half of the time ripping out a mistake though! That is frustrating!
Yeah, these threads are a great exercise in humility for me  I have almost zero crafting talent but I enjoy it so what the heck. Post some pics of the stocking when you can, I would love to see them!

oh, i really love crafting & sewing. this week, i've made a sweater purse. i bought a wool sweater at a thrift store & just re-purposed it into an oversized bag. i like the way it turned out (picture 1 and picture 2).
a few weeks ago, i made this shirt for myself. it was the first pattern i've ever used, & it actually looks like a shirt! lol. i was proud if it! :)
next week, i'm going to start on ornaments i think. i'm considering either these or these. i've got a lot of extra burlap, so i'm trying to use it up.
That purse is adorable. How clever! And I love the shirt.

The Crockpot Lunch Warmer thingy is great! I have one and use it for 4-H days.
I'll admit I cheat and buy pre-made lunches for ds to take to school with him most days. I get him wraps and sushi from Trader Joe's. But making wraps at home wouldn't be hard to do - lunch meat or pre-cooked chicken strips, some veggies and a dressing. Even falafel and hummus in a wrap.

:hurray: I love my Speed Queen! It's sooo much faster, too, than my old front loader. My salesman said pretty much the same thing yours said.
My cat is doing better, thanks. He tries to run every time he sees me since he thinks I am going to shove a pill down his throat (he's right), but he is being pretty cooperative about staying inside and not licking his sore.
