I had a similar incident with a dentist when I was young. I'm glad you have a really understanding one, I hope everything will start to be less scary!

We started homeschooling last year through a charter school. I was so worried I couldn't do it. I used the general curricula our ST suggested. Basically what she would've seen in PS and teacher's guides, halfway though we also used ALEKS. We made it through the year, and I really thought I did well, kiddo seemed to be learning.
My s-i-l adores TWTM book (I'm still on the wait list for it through the library) so I came across the forums while looking for more information. I was stoked! Awesome folks that homeschool, yay!
And then I saw all the things you do. My goodness, the extensive length of which curriculum you use, the number of subjects, etc that everyone else is doing/using/loving, has left me feel quite inadequate.
I made up special interest thematic units for the summer. In Autumn we're doing EPGY for supplement LA and math, standard science with supplemental kits from DELTA, and I'm writing the social studies stuff since 4th grade is state history. She took special interest classes through the charter last year and we'll do the same again.
I'm nearly in a panic, convinced I don't do enough. I feel like my lackadaisical approach to art now looks like achromatic coloring. I feel almost ashamed I haven't taught her another language.
However, I am really and truly ecstatic you're all here! I've already gathered a ton of resources and recommendations. There's a lot of funny threads and educational ones that don't necessarily pertain to homeschool, but still rock.
TL,DR: This place rocks!

Yes, so long as it abides the no HFCS rule and brush your teeth after. We generally only drink sodas on special occasions and family activity nights.

Want? Yes. Can and will have more? No : /

I think if you understand that its a partnership of 100% from both partners instead of 50/50 it can be blissfully simple.
When I was first married, at times as insanely difficult, but that was more me not growing up in a healthy functional family. I only understood dysfunction and would cause unnecessary drama because I didn't *know* it was unnecessary.
Years of therapy later....I have a firm grasp on a reasonable, healthy, loving relationship and its pretty easy most days.

Nope, a half gallon is now 1.5 quarts. Some brands are 1.75, but not many. Everything's getting smaller these days, except some things, apparently. I do hate that at some fast food places, you can' get a small drink or fries. I usually just want water, but sometimes I want a taste of pop.
YES! I distinctly recall the bags of cheese I buy at Sam's being bigger than what I bought last time I went. They're 5lb bags now. I asked the cashier and she acted like I was the crazy one. I know it was more than 5lbs for the same price!

Bowls are a LOT bigger than the ones I grew up with. I have to tell my little one not to fill them up.

I am a HUGE sci-fi nerd, and Firefly was one of my favorite shows. :)
:cheer: I love Firefly!
My screen name is one of The Endless, and also just the generally meaning of delirium fits me, my style, etc.

Is there anything that can be done? :glare:
Love her. Haha, mine (9) is just getting over her 7 year old sass and I'm sure she's raring up for the preteen version any day now.

:iagree: HFCS is evil and some research even shows it makes you stupid. Its generally banned in Europe. Not all, not everywhere, just a general they know its bad for you.high fructose corn syrup!!!I'd like this post a lot better if you said *some* Americans instead of bashing the whole nation. JMHO, of course. None of this is true of all Americans. I certainly don't eat, shop, or raise my children as you've described, and neither do most people of my acquaintance.:iagree::iagree:
This is really turned into a USian (Holy smokes, someone in the U.S. that realizes that America is more than just the United States!) hate thread. Yes, over-processed crap is just that....crap. Yes, there's a lot of people that could exercise more, but not just here in the US! We are not the sole abusers and gluttonous consumers of the planet.

A couple issues here. Investors/all cash buyers are definitely an issue. We also are having a ton of appraisal issues. You spend months working with a selling bank coming up with an acceptable sale price, but then if the house doesn't appraise for that, our bank won't loan against it. Still mostly short sales/foreclosures that we are dealing with here. We were in escrow on one house, only to have the bank say they weren't going to lend anymore at that time. It has been a mess for us. Holding out for *the one*.:tongue_smilie:
:iagree:
Having just bought a house last year, I can say that it is a buyer's market BUT the banks own most of it now. Sometimes its quite difficult to get them to cooperate because the house is only worth X now and they want to recoop the X0000 they're losing.
We went through multiple offers and had 4 closing dates on different houses before we finally got this house that we have now.

I like how she assumed it was the right number when you said it wasn't.

In the summer I do 2-3 weeks on and 1 off, its an off week for us.

Aww, so sweet. To see through a kid's eyes is fun. I have one tattoo, planning more when I can afford.

I am also in CA.
We have been using this program for sports :

I just wanted to add that I do NOT use the charter due to personal views. The charter will give you what you want, but like pp mentioned, there are stipulations.
I don't have anything for the OP but I wanted to say thank you for this link!

6 is perfect for me. I recall in a college class I took a few years ago that our sleep cycles are 90 minutes. So 7.5 or 9 is better than 8 because you're not waking up in the middle of a cycle. I found this to be true for me, however I've used it to reason staying up another 30 or whatever so I can make it even divide of 90s :lol:

Fantastic! You're very creative :)

I love her! I followed her blog before her book, but its neat to think she was here too.

I don't have any personal experience with this but http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/kids_help.html#writing
seems to have some good suggestions.

Gosh, I'll be 50, but this thread is mildly depressing. I don't want to think about it yet!
