  1. I agree with KingFu Panda....delete as many as you want before you post or join. It will probably not be noticed, your friends are not used to seeing you on anyway. If anyone does notice they may just send you another friend request. I deleted almost everyone once....I only had one or two ask about it.

  2. HUGS! I know how hard it is to take an honest look and decide what is best for your kids as well as for yourself. It has already been said but I hope in saying this again it will help you....It is ok to stop hosing and send them to brick and mortar. You are not a failure.

I loved the reference to seasons....for our family there have been seasons to HS and seasons to PS. I have enjoyed them both. I felt a need to pull my DD out of PS in 5th mid quarter and worried how she would respond.....she surprised me with how excited she was to stay home like her brother and sister had the year before. Your 5 th grader has seen his older siblings going to school. He sees them happy and enjoying it. You could ask him if he would like to try iPS after Christmas for half a year, then reevaluate what you both feel for next year. He may surprise you by wanting to PS like his siblings. I might would even enlist the help of olders totalk about what they like about PS.

We as mothers can be so hard on ourselves. Give yourself grace. You are a good mom that loves her kids. You are a tired mom that could use a break. Take a breather for a time and rediscover your joy.....even if that road takes you down a new path....PS for you kids.

  3. Thanks for the suggestions. I will check into all of them probably. We are told the temps will continue to drop to -50 so I am sure I will have plenty of chances to see what works best for us. She was using coconut oil at night but I wondered if there was something to help when she goes outside to the bus. We put camphonique (that is not spelled correctly but I cannot figure out the spelling, our bottle is all oily) on her cheeks to help them heal...that stings but at this point I think anything will until her cheeks heal a bit.

  4. How can I prevent chapped cheeks on myself and DD, especially at temps or -20 and below? The temp here dropped drastically the last few days. My DD cheeks are red and dry....I thought of Chapstick but that seemed to sting.

On. plus side we are having a heat wave today.....it is 12 degrees, that is up 45 degrees from yesterday...Whoo hoo. My dog even decided its warm enough to do her business in the yard...LOL

  5. I agree with go to the doctor to rule out possibility of other sickness. I had an ER doc once tel me that the sickness had outsmarted Zpacks and you needed 10 days to be effective.

My DS cannot take most antibiotics so we use a treatment we found in Germany when DH and I lived there.

DH had chronic broncitus and one time we did not have time for a Dr visit between trips. He went into the Apothecary and he suggested he take broncicum. It was over the counter. A few drops several times a day clears the cough up. We normally have friends send it to us but just found out we can order it online. http://www.mycare.de/suche/broncicum This shows the product, not sure what is in it other than the fact we have used it for over 20 years and it works

last spring a daughter of a friend had a cough that just lingered. I offered broncicum to my friend and within 3 days she gave it back as her DD cough was gone. She emailed a friend in Germany and had some sent to have on hand.......

might be something you could look into.

  6. Have you looked at the minute to win it games ? Those are really popular and fun.

We did the ping pong ball into a cup. They have 2 minutes to bounce as many balls into the cup as possible. I had enough balls for 4 at a time......at first I gave them each a few balls to practice with. I found balls on sale at our local sports authority...6 balls for $2.The practice time then race took a good amount do time.

  7.

We love Olive Garens soup at our house. I want to try the last one you mentioned. Thanks OP for the thread and for all those that have given recipes,

  8.

Then at other stores I buy 3 dz eggs, dairy free milk, regular milk, and a few other things I can't think of.

Those are the things I buy monthly, without fail.

Each month I make for the freezer: 3 batches of soup, 3 batches of pasta sauce, 2 trays baked oatmeal, 2 trays frittata, 3 dz cookies or snack, 4 lbs of beans, 2 lbs grain (quinoa usually), and 2 trays of granola bars.

I would love your recipe for granola....do you snack on it? add to breakfast? What type of soup do you make?

  9. Agree that each family has to work it out for themselves. We did make a budget and put items like clothing, haircuts, makeup in their own category and then we put in a reasonable amount. well, first I guess we decided what we wanted to spend each month then took that dollar amount and divided to among categories. We included a little "fun" money for each of us a month....when we were first married I think it was 10 am another but that allowed us to each budget and not have to answer to each other over a coffee or dollar lunch item.

I would say building your marriage is a wonderful investment. New undies and a date night out with your man is an investment in your families future. Clothing you feel pretty in is another good investment. You mentioned giving to chairty....are you faith based as well? If so pray about your wants/ needs.

Is is my personal belief and experience but I believe it pleases God for us to live within our means and that when we ask he will help us. I try to take the $ I have for items like clothing and food and ask him to help me get the most for my money. He knows where the excellent sale is, even what day. Pray before you shop and see what blessing he has for you.

Best answer to a prayer like that was a. kitchen aid mixer for $79. That blew me away. I had saved for years.....that Christmas I had pledged to give away the difference in what I expected to spend and what I actually spent like finding things on sale. So if PJ were on sale for 15 instead of 20 I out 5 in an envelope,....we actually gave away as much that year as we spent on the kids and I gave them everything I had on my want list for them. It was an amazing experience.

  10. Where do you people live that you've had snow already (or are expecting it soon)?! This is crazy talk.

Alaska has had snow twice....however we are in the mid 50's today! So out enjoying the beautiful weather before the snow sticks for good. We have been told the next snow will probably be down for good until break up....crazy!!!

  11. I am so happy for you, and so jealous!  What part of Alaska are you in?

I grew up in MN, and used to see green Northern Lights from time to time at our farm.  Once the display was spectacular, and we could see a hint of rose and blue.  One night I was driving back from town, turned a bend, and dove for the side of the road -- the sky was all green, dancing fire.  I used to wake up in the middle of the night, hearing a faint "song", and run outside past the windbreak because I knew the Northern Lights were dancing (I could hear them).

So when, in college, I spent one Spring Break in Fairbanks, AK I was astounded to hear not a sound from the Northern Lights.  It was amazing, spectacular, a moving, dancing display that spanned the sky from horizon to horizon.  So many colors, so beautiful.  In no time I had a crick in my neck from staring so hard -- checking my watch I discovered that in the space of seconds more than two hours had passed.  And the other B&B guests were just as enraptured.

Now I'm too far south for even the edge of a display when they hit their peak.  And I rarely hear the "song" anymore.  But a couple of times I did -- and the next day there were news stories about the massive display of the night before.  All I can think is that the sound I hear has something to do with the angle between me and the Aurora.

Someday we'll take the kids to Alaska to see them.  I knew March was a good time of year.  Thanks, OP!  Now I know September can be a good time, too.

I am happy to hear March is a good time to see them here. We are where you were when you saw them. They are not at peak this time of year I have been told...they were faint and not very colorful but I was just so happy to see them. I cannot wait to see the colorful displays I keep hearing about.
