  1. We ordered Chinese food last year for Christmas; it was wonderful!  I'm thinking of a roast in the crock pot this year.  Easy!

I don't do Christmas cards but my older teen does.  She enjoys sending and receiving them, but they stress me!

My daughters select exactly what they want as gifts and usually order them online.  I pay for them.

If I'm working close to Christmas day, the girls wrap their own presents.  That's awful, isn't it?

My girls, also, put up our Christmas tree each year.  We only put on lights.  We stopped decorating the tree with ornaments a few years ago because of long it took and because the ornaments became cat toys very quickly.

I love Christmas and want to enjoy the loveliness of the season, not be stressed by the unimportant!

  2. Please stay with the original intent of this thread.  If you wish to discuss the appropriateness of Thanksgiving as a holiday, start a new thread.

Forum rules:   Do not assume that everyone on the boards shares a particular religious conviction

These boards are inclusive. You are welcome to ask theological questions, but don't post as though everyone who frequents the boards shares your ideology. Offending posts may be deleted. Don't use inquiries as an excuse to proselytize for anything. Answer questions that are posted but don't use these questions as an excuse to springboard into criticism. For example: If someone asks, "What are your kids dressing up as for Halloween?" don't launch into an explanation of how evil Halloween is. If someone asks, "Is Halloween evil?" have a ball. (Conversely: if someone posts, "We don't do Halloween; what can we substitute?" don't take this as an opportunity to prove to them that Halloween is really just fine.)

  3. My older daughter has earned the silver medal and is slowly working on the gold.  She hasn't applied to any selective universities so I don't know if the awards would help or not.  I will say the interviewer for her part-time job was impressed and asked her a lot of questions about the program and her achievements.  My younger daughter hasn't submitted any paperwork for any level yet.  Since it can be inexpensive, I think it's a good way to show that teens are involved in the community as well as learning new skills.

  4. I'm not in a similar position, but if I had the money I would love to have a home with an attached apartment anyway.  It could be used to generate some income if not needed for family members.  My concern would be for the long term.  What would happen to your son if you and your husband were not able to continue looking after him.  Are you his legal guardians now?  Would you be able to identify family or friends who would be willing to act as his guardians if you couldn't.  Does your son have a therapist or social worker who could help you think through some of the issues?  This has to be a painful situation for you.  I hope you find solutions.

  5. You might also consider Christian Healthcare Ministries as an alternative to compare.   Routine prescriptions aren't covered by CHM.  I don't know about SM.  My older daughter is on one of CHM's programs.  She's only had to use the sharing once - we're still in the process of sending receipts.  Unfortunately, we did have problems with the surgeon who didn't understand the program at all.  I paid the bill up front (no choice) and hope to get my money back soon from CHM.
