  1. For me, I am happy with the quality of The Gap and Ann Taylor. For dress pants, i like Express Editors. My Dh gets his clothes from Nordstom and Dillards. He especially likes Gold Label, Daniel Cremieux and BB. I take a lot of care with out clothes. Little to no detergent, I use the hand wash cycle, wash everything inside out and I NEVER use the dryer for our clothes. Most of his clothes remain pill and fade free 4-6 years later.

  2. I have always been a bit grumpy and a bit snacky during PMS, but its barely noticeable. Until now. The past 6 months, during the week preceding my period, I become crazy. I crave salty foods to the point that if there is nothing else, i start polishing off all of the pickles and olives in the house and then drinking the juice. Yuck, I know! I also get anxious, stressed and am terrible to my family. The day my period starts, it is like a cloud lifts and I'm back to myself again.

It is horrible. I need to see my dr, as my thyroid level my be off (my periods are also much, much heavier than normal). I have been hyper and hypo through the years. Perhaps its pre menopause? I am 37. Thoughts?

  3. I love resolutions, they are my favorite part of New Years. And for the most part, I do make the changes and they stick. This year, I will

    Run 5 5ks

    Run a 10k

    Lose 10 pounds

    Do 2 rounds of insanity

    Eat out less

    Cut spending by half

    Organize all of my pictures

  4. When we couldn't afford the basics, it was such a blessing to find great clothes at resale. It was demoralizing those times when everything was cheap, stained or ripped.

This has never occurred to me. I will donate the clothes tomorrow. Thank you.

Lots of great ideas from everyone.

I am going to do the CD/DVD folder and toss the cases. Not quite ready to get rid of them totally, but this will certainly cut down on "stuff".

I am going to scan the cards and keep only the few I can't live without. This was a novel and exciting idea to me, lol. Scan stuff!

  5. I am determined to start my year off right! I am a clean and neat person but my weaknesses are getting rid of things and staying organized. Here are the areas I need help, if anyone has any good ideas!

    1) 3 bins of the kids school work from K-6 (they are older now and I don't save their work anymore). Has anyone tried to take pictures of art and crafts and then thrown the originals away? I am terrified that one day I'll look back and regret it. Maybe just accept the 3 bins and put them in the garage?

    2) I need to get rid of CDs and DVDs. I rarely watch/listen to them but when I think about just donating them.....I just can't do it. I think about how much I spent for them, and that perhaps one day I'll "need them".

    3) Clothes that aren't name brand enough to sell nor cheap enough to donate. Like the reason above, I think about how much I spent on the clothes, how little my kids wore them and it pains me to just donate them. When I write it out, that sounds selfish, actually. Maybe I need to have a more giving spirit :(

    4) What do you guys do with cards people give you? I have bins and bins and it seems terrible to toss them. The worst are picture Christmas cards....it is like throwing away a picture. Yet at this rate, I will have a garage full of cards by the time I'm 80.

5)Finally. trip memorabilia and things such as park maps (like Disneyland), cruise itineraries ticket stubs and things like this. Do you toss them?

Thank you, thank you to anyone who muddled through this long post :)

    Happy Holidays!

  6. Set aside 1 day a month when you print everything you need for entire month. On that day, let the kids read and watch ed. movies, do internet stuff. That night, make it pizza night or something as a "reward" to yourself for getting in all done. Or make that the night your husband cooks. I find I get sooo much done when i know I don't have dinner hanging over me.

As for books, craigslist and thrift stores. So cheap.

  7. Because this is food,I see why this is an issue. Food brings out deep seated issues in many people. OP's husband doesn't like the idea of kids buying their own food. I don't really think it has anything to with "why would it bother him to share cabinet space". I dont think that has anything to do with it. He feels parents should be buying food, this is apparently deeper than what is sounds like. In his world, parents "provide". Another issue may be nutrition. My kids have asked to buy candy with their own money. My answer is no. I don't allow candy except for special occasions.

Lastly, I will say this and this is my opinion only. This is a touchy subject for me. Food is to be shared, i do not allow food to brought into the house that is not allowed to be eaten by all. No one brings food into our home that is only for themselves. I have one son who has a special diet, and even then, I never tell others thay cannot eat his food. I do ask they be respectful by not eating all of it without letting me know so I can restock more. And actually once the novelty wore off, no one eats his food bc it isn't as tasty!

So to say this isn't a big deal is to discount the fact that food is indeed a "big deal" to some. It has all kind of control issues tied to it as well.
