Yes, you can do this. :grouphug:
My DH had surgery (robotic prostate removal) last June and it was definitely harder on me emotionally than it was on him. I'll be praying for you AND him and the surgeon ... I remember the agony well. :grouphug:

Mr. Eldon Palmer (Valley) is AWESOME!!! This is his first year (and ours!) and I have absolutely no complaints. :D

With both dd and ds, we used Horizons K through 3rd, then moved into Saxon 5/4 seamlessly. Actually ds was bored when we started the second book of Horizons 3, and I moved him then.
I never noticed any gaps, and they are in Saxon Algebra I and at Saxon 7/6 now.
Hope that helps. :)

I don't know about bed bugs :001_huh:
but DH won't go back because he scraped his foot while he was there and it turned into a staph infection. :glare:
(HOWEVER, the appt. for the staph infection turned into checking into more stuff which in turn resulted in the discovery that he had prostate cancer ... for which he had surgery and is now cancer-free :D ... so I personally have a great amount of love for GWL. We may not have known until it had progressed farther were it not for that scrape on his foot....)

I'm a library sub and I would definitely care. On top of that, I'd thank you for bringing it to our attention! ;)
Not sure if your library does this, but ours has a "Collection Comment Card" available that we are to provide to anyone who expresses why any certain book should or should not be included in the collection. Completed cards are sent to people who matter and care :) at the main office ... so even if the particular librarian you choose to speak to doesn't see it as important it may not matter? I would definitely speak up.
(p.s. Do you want to share the title of the book? :001_huh: I'm wondering if we have it!)

We did ECC, then CTG, and this year we are doing RTR. I'd say, given what you described, there should be no problem skipping CTG. I'm sure you'll get differing views here. ;)
I'll also say that RTR has been my favorite MFW so far - and I loved the other years enough to continue with MFW. :)
And I also don't think you'll have a problem with EFTRU. Especially because of how they divide them into Greek the first year and Latin the next. If you wanted, it would be easy to double up and cover them all in one year - they move pretty slow - only one root/week in CTG and two/week in RTR.
Hope that helps! Have fun deciding! :)

Needle biopsy confirmed my husband's prostate cancer last March. He had a low PSA as well. There is really no other way (less invasive) to know for sure.
Was it pleasant? Nope. Are we thankful he had it done? Absolutely. Prostate cancer, when caught early (before it has spread outside the walls of the prostate) is very treatable. My husband is officially cancer free. :D
However, this is a very private decision. We really didn't ask for input from other family members, and I wouldn't ever offer "advice" on best choice of treatment etc. for this particular issue to anyone other than my husband. Sharing our story is not out of the question though. :grouphug:

We've done the first 3 days. *I* like it. My son would rather continue on with Wordsmith Apprentice. We will see. :001_huh:

I ordered one!
Thank you!!!! :D

I know that the waiting is the hardest part. :grouphug:
I'm praying for you, and will watch for your updates. :grouphug:

I'd love to know how long have you been providing this perfect classical education to your ten children, and what are their ages?
:iagree:

sorry, but what are ALEs? We just joined CVA this year after I read about it here (THANK YOU SO MUCH!) ... my husband is a public school teacher and therefore we have homeschooled since the beginning, 7 years already. It was his idea originally. :)
I don't get the public school / government is evil bit. I'm just happy to get some of our tax money back for classes we've never been able to consider because of the expense. I'm so excited about CVA! :)

Dawn!
Thank you for posting! I don't think you are posting too much - in fact I always make a point to look at your posts. I bought that Medieval Village book this morning from Amazon, thanks to you! I most often just lurk, and don't say thank you *nearly* enough. Thanks. :)

Your quote from "Calm My Anxious Heart" drew me in from lurking. ;) That book was my lifeline this last spring when my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He has since had surgery and is recovering, but I'm all too familiar with the endless dr. appts. and decisions and emotions and such that come with a diagnosis.
All that to say :001_smile: I will pray for you tomorrow, and watch for an update. He IS faithful. :grouphug:

Here is where Marie Hazell, the author of MFW curriculum, addressed this issue:

:grouphug: and many prayers.
My dh goes in next Tuesday for a prostate removal surgery. I've been worried for weeks in anticipation. I get teary just thinking about it.
I'll be praying for you tomorrow and looking for the updates. :grouphug:

My husband is also a public school teacher. :D
In fact, it was originally his idea that we homeschool! ;)
You may find they are very supportive and understanding. Or, maybe not. The most flack we get is from DH's coworkers. :001_huh:

Daniel really was amazing. I'd even like to do it again. :)

I'm in Washougal right across the border :) and we have to test yearly after they turn 8. The tests are math and language arts for the vast majority, sometimes a little science/social studies (common sense things) depending on which test you take. We're in our 3rd year of MFW and we haven't had any problems with the tests. Don't worry. ;)
(Didn't see your 2nd question - sorry) I've used mostly WTM recommendations for LA and Math. Horizons math through 3rd grade, then to Saxon 5/4. FLL for grammar, IEW for writing, Spell to Read and Write, ... I honestly don't pay much attention to MFW's LA and math recommendations and use what seems to work best for my kiddos.:)

With both my kids I transitioned from Horizons 3 into Saxon 5/4 and it was painless, other than the fact that Saxon takes a bit longer each day between reading the lesson, facts practice page, etc. My son only did a bit of the second Horizons 3 book before I switched him - he was bored and it was also an easy transition. HTH :)

I'm using Drawn Into the Heart of Reading again this year.... not sure if that's what you're looking for or not. :) I'm in Washougal.

Do you want plans funded by CVA or entire plans? ;)
CVA will fund the following for my 6th grader next year (we've done several years of MFW to this point) ...
Saxon Math 8/7
Hake Grammar and Writing Grade 6
Write Shop
Evan Moor Handwriting
English from the Roots Up Volume 2
All American History
Prentice Hall Science Explorer Earth Science (books, lab book, workbook, etc.)
Figuratively Speaking
Artistic Pursuits
WA State History (CVA's course)
Spanish is free through our library, and I haven't decided yet on literature (probably simply history-related etc.) or logic. And I'm probably forgetting something... I look forward to reading other plans! :)
