  1. My teacher sent me tickets to the Puyallup Fair. I'm not even sure if we can make it up there, and I told him that before he sent them. I'm sorry you all are missing out. CVA confuses me to no end. :(

  2. I spoke with my AT today. He wants me to set ONE goal PER SUBJECT PER SEMESTER. He said to name the curriculum and the goal (Saxon Algebra I, to get through Lesson 60 by the end of the first semester, for example).

Sounds easy enough. However, I'm planning on using other curriculum than ordered (they forced me to order something for each subject, but I'm using Apologia for Biology, for example) so I'm wondering how easy it really will be.

He also said his understanding is no monthly reviews, only weekly.

    I'm cautiously optimistic.

  3. I got a letter from our new AT today too. Was surprised to find myself relieved to find out "Pat Schneider" is a man. :) We've really REALLY loved having Mr. Palmer the last two years, so Mr. Schneider has some big shoes to fill. I'm nervous about this year - first year of high school, all the changes in CVA...

  4. I didn't hear anything until September last year, and it was our second year.

And I'm showing a new AT :( so if you're not, maybe you have the same one. I wish we did! I think he lost his job with all the cuts. :(

  5. I got a call this morning from my AT (he is awesome - I have no complaints whatsoever).

He was calling to give me a heads-up that they (Valley) are in discussions about *possibly* cutting funding to PE CBIs effective at the end of March. Our music doesn't seem to be in jeopardy (yet).

He re-iterated that they are fighting for us :) and that the main issue is that the state's definition of "substantially similar" leans more toward "identical" while CVA's definition leans more toward "similar."

    MPRs

We cover TWO subjects a week, and over the month we get them all. In weekly contact I name goals met :blink::blink: and they talk about what they did/learned in their own voice.

I cut and paste for monthlies.

I can't believe how much you all are doing for weeklies! A huge reason for so many being frustrated with CVA is the hazy, vague, different-from-AT-to-AT guidelines on this type of stuff!

I have an 8th and 6th grader. I can't imagine the time it would take for us to report on EVERY subject EVERY week. We're too busy doing school and living life to regurgitate it that often!

I wish they would send us all clear direction. I do really well at following instructions! ;)

  6. Report on 2 subjects (therefore covering all 8 in a month - I have a schedule I strictly stick to so this does indeed happen)

For each subject, I name the goals (just numbers!) from WINGS that were met. I give details on what we did (page or lesson numbers, test scores, or experiments, or books read or videos watched... not too detailed since he already knows what curriculum we are using, which is a mish-mash I chose)

Then I let the kids read what I wrote and they respond in their voice on SOMETHING I mentioned. Something they learned, how they felt about their art project, what they are going to work harder on .... just something.

That's it! Then for monthly reviews, I cut and paste from the weeklies!

Every subject every single week seems excessive to me. And it would take up valuable time that I should be spending on educating my children! I'm sorry. :(
