We tip on the pre-tax amount, but we usually tip at least 20%. Our tax on prepared food is fairly high, and, we almost always use a coupon, so we never see the original total including tax. We ALWAYS tip on the total before the coupon. Always.

We are seriously LOVING the Picture Smart Bible (K-3 version). The kids color while I read the story. Even my 10 yo DS, who hates to color, LOVES it.

I keep a few to use for shipping curriculum. But most I end up recycling. At the moment, I have approximately 1 gazillion of them from Christmas!!!!! This weekend, I'll be flattening them and making a recycling center run.

Ugh. It never, ever fails that I put off getting rid of something - finally donate it - and then very shortly after, I need it back.

We are adding in Trail Guide to World Geography. I ditched Biblioplan a little while ago, and we've been doing a little of this and that for history. I finally have Mystery of History 4, so we will do a little of that along with Trail Guide.

My DD8 regularly does gymnastics while doing her math work. I have no idea how she can do math while hanging upside down on the couch or standing on her head. But hey, it gets done!!!

I am already Gluten-free because it helps with my migraines. I really, really need to cut out sugar. It is such an addiction for me and I know I would feel better. I'm good with eating natural sugar, like fruit. It's just sweets, like cookies, candy, stuff like that that needs to go.
Tell me how to do it. What snacks do you eat?
Is there any chocolate that would work? Some type of super dark chocolate, maybe?

We already replaced our literature program. Everything else is going well, except for grammar. We are trying Winston this year and it just isn't sticking. What we are covering right now should be review, but the kids are getting so many wrong. It's just discouraging. I set it aside and pulled out an EiW that I have, but my middle kiddo really dislikes it. She has an aversion to DVD lessons. I have no idea why. I am debating about pulling out Fix It! again...but we dumped it last year because I didn't like it either. *sigh* We had the most success when we were using BJU grammar, but it's long, I don't want to cover grammar every single year and it's so expensive to buy multiple levels. If anyone knows of a magic solution to my dilemma, please chime in!
Khan Academy recently added Grammar. You could try that. I haven't looked at it at all, but I keep meaning to.

My mom had back surgery last year. She is 65. It took 2 days for her to wake up. I was preparing for the worst, but she finally did wake up and is just fine now.

1. Years ago, my cat ate the turkey.
2. My last real Christmas tree - I was living alone in a townhouse and I was going to spend Christmas in Japan with my sister. I decided I would buy a tree and then just take it down before I left. I mean, you can't have December without a Christmas tree! So I took it down and literally half the needles fell off the tree. The darn thing was so dead!!! I was vacuuming up needles for months!!!!! I bought a fake tree the next year.

We always go to my BIL's house for the big meal, so we usually don't get leftovers, either. This year, though, lots of people didn't show, and BIL had cooked 1 ham and 3 turkeys!!! So we brought home an entire cooked turkey!!!!!

I broke a teaching contract over 10 years ago. My husband accepted a job in a different state. Several years after that, I applied for a teaching job and I had to explain why I broke that contract.
If I applied for a teaching job now, I would still have to explain it. In my situation, I'm not sorry I did it, but I was 32 and DH and I had a solid plan and it has all worked out fine.

We are gluten, dairy, egg, soy, peanut, and nut free. Sigh. Not fun!
I make dressing with Schar bread and a cornbread I make myself. It works out ok.
I make gravy with chicken broth (after making a roux).
We have chocolate pie and apple crisp. We are not pumpkin pie fans and egg free pumpkin pie is really not our thing. I haven't had good success with it.
I make green bean casserole from scratch - so no canned soup. My hubby makes homemade onion straws to put on top.
I make paprika corn with bacon.
I make mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes.
And I make rolls.
Thanksgiving is so complicated with our allergies. It's really not very fun to figure it all out.
Can I ask how he makes the onion straws? I looooove green bean casserole, but I need to stay gluten-free. I already make homemade cream of .... soups, but I've never fried onions.

I keep telling myself that it's a fairly harmless habit. But it's driving me insane. And let's be honest, I don't have far to go!!!

When I was a high school teacher at a public school, I had a student that called his mom every single day. She would come pick him up, take him home, then bring him back to school after he was done. I have NO idea why the school let him get away with it.

I swear - my obituary is going to say - "She died at her computer while researching homeschool writing curriculum."
I need a writing curriculum for my 3rd grader. We currently have Write Shop Junior Level D. I like the idea of it, but it's just not getting done. We go to multiple therapy appointments a week and I need something that is portable. Also, DD LOVES workbooks - she has very high anxiety and she LOVES knowing exactly what pages she needs to do.
Ideas? I thought about Essentials in Writing, but we'd have to make sure she watched the DVD at home and then take the workbook with us.

Going Back to the 3Rs - Tell Me it Will be OK
in General Education Discussion Board

My family is in the middle of a crisis time right now. Putting the kids in school isn't an option. So we are cutting back to bare bones for a while. I don't have to test them at the end of the year, and they are all working ahead of grade level anyway. (Not that I get too hung up on that, but just to give you an idea.)
Tell me everything will be OK. We will do Math, Writing, and lots of reading. We will do whatever else we can manage to get done, but I need to get to a place where I feel OK about this. My kids are ages 6, 9, and 10.
Tell me they won't be scarred for the rest of their education!!!!!
