  1. Awesome idea! I am going to print this out so we can remember to do this! :) Hot Lava Mama
  2. They don't have pricing on their web site. Do you know how much this is? Hot Lava Mama
  3. So, what is a CLEP? I thought I had this stuff figured out!
  4. I am working on pulling together the 10th grade schedule for ds for this next fall. He wants to do US history because he loves it, it is easy for him, and it will be a nice addition to some of his tougher classes next year. I am trying to figure out which one would be better: (1) take the AP US history test or (2) take the SAT II test on US history. Some questions I have: 1. Does he need to take an "approved" AP course to take the AP test? I have some stuff that is suppose to get them ready for the AP test, but I don't plan on getting the approval from the college board. Should I? Do I have to have approval to call it an AP course? What if I don't call it that but he takes the test and scores high. Then would it matter whether or not it is called AP? 2. What is the advantage of doing either the SAT II instead of AP, or visa versa? We don't know which college he will be attending, so I can't use the "check to see what the college wants" kind of test. Given the massive uncertainty, which would be a better choice? Thanks Hot Lava Mama
  5. My heart goes out to you. But, maybe your husband just figured since you haven't (in the past) been a big birthday person, perhaps it wasn't such a big deal. Did you tell him in advance that you thought this was a "special" birthday and you wanted to make sure you celebrated it? If not, you should cut him some slack. (Hubby's tend not to be as emotion as we are). If you did, you have every right to be angry. Hope things are getting better. Hot Lava Mama
  6. Do these exist? I see the "Cat in the Hat" written in Latin, I was hoping for the same kind of thing in Koine Greek. Anyone know of any and where I can get them? :) Hot Lava Mama
  7. How are you doing these? Books? Classes somewhere? Clubs? :) Hot Lava Mama
  8. I'm so with you on this one! Crying on each others shoulders! Hot Lava Mama
  9. What route will your dc take to study for the new SAT? Do you think the old "Blue book" from the College Board is useless now? What will you use to prepare? If a student studied using the old books, do you think they would still score high on the test using those testing materials? Hot lava Mama
  10. Also, what is this one? Is there a web site? I don't know what "CPO" stands for. :) Thanks! Hot Lava Mama
  11. I've never heard of these three. Do you have a web site for any of them? :) Hot Lava Mama
  12. What are you using for this? Also, is there anything special about the computer needed for this or can it be any computer? :)
  13. Science: Why 1/2 credit? Are you using the whole book? Is Apologia only considered a 1/2 credit? Lobbyist: What is this? Is dc assisting a lobbyist? How interesting! How were you able to do this? Legislator: Same question as above. :) Hot Lava Mama
  14. I've never heard of these before. Have you used them in the past? What do you think of them? :) Hot Lava Mama
  15. I didn't realize that Education-Portal.com also did science stuff! We just started looking at that for Spanish. Have you used it for science before? What did you think of it? Are you using it as a supplement? Do you think it is beefy enough for a stand alone? Thanks for the info! Hot Lava Mama :)
  16. So I can glean from your wisdom and experience! Can be a prior list you used. :) Hot Lava Mama
  17. So I can glean from your experience and wisdom as I prepare my (soon-to-be) 10th grader! (Can be a prior 10th grader list you already have!) :) Hot Lava Mama
  18. Thanks for the information. No, it wasn't confusing. I'm not sure about all of CA, but the local one here said applicants had to be at least 16 years old. Perhaps that is just the requirement for that one. I might look at some other ones that are close (but not as close as that other one) as a possibility. Thanks for your help. :)
  19. Also, I can't seem to find SPECIFIC information on what the a-g requirements are. I saw general descriptions, but not a syllabus-like kind of listing. It seems like they want to "approve" your course in order for you to qualify. Does anyone know where I can get a detailed listing on what needs to be covered? (ie: US history should cover founding documents, etc. etc.) Hot Lava Mama
  20. That's a thought. What will this look like? Since the a-g courses are basically "everything" a child would take in high school, is your child doing high school in community college or are you just covering the "gaps" in the a-g requirements after high school? I was looking at a local cc here, and the child has to be at least 16 before they are able to enroll. In that case, there is no way he could do all his a-g requirements at cc unless he continued on there for the first two years of college. Thanks for your help! Hot Lava Mama
  21. My searches brought up names (in CA as well as the entire US), but they don't actually list the books used. Under curriculum, they state general terms such as "History 9", etc. Any ideas of how I could get the actual book used? Hot Lava Mama
  22. If ds takes a subject test early in high school (ie: does not have a specific college in mind, yet), what happens to the scores? Does the college board keep them so that he can send them to wherever when he needs to? Also, if he tries more than once, will all his scores need to be reported to the college? Hot Lava Mama
