Hello friends, I am thinking of doing copy work,narration and dictation skills for my kids. If anyone guide me should I use Mcguffey readers and classic novels for this purpose and how? My kids read aloud daily from 1 chapter of Mcguffey reader 2 and half or 1 chapter of novels. I am using these readers http://www.learn-to-read-prince-george.com/McGuffey-readers.html When they see difficult words in their readings,they look up in the dictionary,but should I urge them to memorize definitions of new vocabulary or just explain them the new word. My younger one is bad at narration,as she can't keep all chapter's plot in her mind and forgets when narrates back...Any suggestions? How to do dictation ?word by word or to say a whole sentence one time and they should write it then? I am not using any literature guide right now and even don't know how to teach literary analyse?If anyone tell me in easy and clear way to do it on my own,would be thankful....(Though I discuss the main characters,plot,setting and vocabulary for each chapter) What is the difference between WTM and CM method?please clarify? How to use writing skills across the curriculum,please,please,guide me so that I can home school my kiddos successfully!

Hello, My ds 10yo got his writing assignment in his McgrawHill LA,to write about how you meet your new friend..... It was my first day at new school.I was very flustered because I didn't know anyone there.I was ambling slowly to my classroom then suddenly,a bashful girl came up to me.She interrogated ,Are you new to the school?"I nodded and felt shy.She beamed and added ,My name is Lisa".I flashed a big grin and remarked ,I am Jill". Since that day,we always darted to the library,munched on cracking snacks and froliced on the soft and green grass of playground. We were like two peas in a pod.I was pleased that I had a sincere and devoted friend. Kindly evaluate his writing and how to improve it........ Thanks for reading.....

Hello friends, Can anyone help me decide between these 2 programs? I have 3 children, only 2 are school aged, so I need something that gets the job done but also that isn't very teacher intensive. As there are many books of EM which are Daily six trait writing,How to report on books,Paragraph writing,How to write a story and Non-fiction writing so anyone who used any of these could compare these with IEW? From what I can tell by looking at the samples, these programs look quite different. Has anyone seen or used both of these who can compare/contrast them for me? Thanks for the help!

Hi, I am looking into IEW writing programs for my reluctant kids of 3rd and 4th Graders.I have some queries here: 1)Can we start All things about Canada theme lesson(Meant for Grade 2-4) before swi-a?As there is Teacher handsout with teaching video links,so can we start iew writing with this theme book successfully? 2)After completing All things Canada,can we start SWI-A ,but skip TWSS Teacher course and just order the TWSS Overview DVD for $10?Does this dvd has seminar handouts also?Would it be fine to go through swi-a course? Hi, My kids are not good at writing,but today I tried my best to teach dd how to write paragraph,so kindly evaluate it and advice me how to deal next... My Favorite season.... My best-loved season is summer.I adore it because it has fun things to do.I can go to the beach and swim there or build sand castles.Also I can go to the park and play football,run,jog and swing on the swings. I could visit any festival to meet my friends and play in the sports club.I wish if summer would be preferred as the best season in this world. Is this acceptable for third grade? What suggestions would you have for her to help her improve ? Thanks in advance!
