  1. I'm trying to decide between these two for next year. I'm mostly looking for my 1st grader but if I go with MFW Adventures my 3rd grader would also use it but we'd add a lot from the book basket.. I'm not sure if my 1st grader will be able to do all of the assigments in MFW, she is reading and writing well but not above average or anything. MFW also includes science, music and art, which are nice but dd could always tag along in whatever my older dd would do.. It'd be nice to have it all planned though. Adventures in America looks like it would take less time, I was really thinking about start Apologia Elementary with older dd so she could tag along in it same with music & art. I'm debating back and fourth! I had also considered MFW 1st or MP 1st but I shouldn't get started on that. :glare: So tell me why you love/hate one of these curriculums?
  2. I've used both. :D We used MFW K last year for Pre-K , I didn't add anything else. DD & I both loved it! It was a gentle start and dd loved all the activities. I plan on using it for my ds's when they get there. This year we're using MP. There is definitely a lot more writing involved then MFW. There has been more of a structured work in MP then MFW but there is still a ton of fun stuff. We've loved it too! If you have any more specific questions, I'll answer them. :001_smile: Now I have to make the decision between MFW 1st or MP 1st. :glare:
  3. We're using Memoria Press' Kindergarten right now and love it! We're using Rightstart A for Math though. Last year we used MFW K and loved it too. :001_smile: Depending on your ds's age and what he already knows, I feel MFW K was more of Pre-K curriculum but I know many who are using it for K. Are you using anything for preschool now?
  4. I would be MAD. You can bet I'd either call them or talk to them at the next practice. That is ridiculous, does it really take that long to have her call you? :glare:
  5. Not sure.. We won't be moving out of MI and she probably won't end up in PS. She does have friends in PS K this year though. About the pressure to "keep up", I have it sometimes but if she needs to slow down, I will. I do have 2 kids with September Birthdays and we didn't red shirt them, I haven't had any regrets but they've always been at least a year ahead in everything even with their late birthdays. I don't think we'll redshirt her.. she'd probably end up wanting to skip a grade later on because she has friends and a very close cousin in her current grade.
  6. I don't know where you are but I have a trundle bed with mattress that's sitting under DD11's bed and no one ever uses it. I was going to sell it or give it to good will because dd wants a loft bed, you can have it if you can pick it up. :001_smile: ETA: Just saw your in Iowa! Sorry!
  7. :iagree: with you mostly. I was very skeptical forever, my sister openly claims to everyone she's a "medium". It wasn't until my own daughter had some experiences and my mom told me about her experiences that I ever thought it was real.
  8. She's 5 and will be 6 on November 20th. Our cut off date is Dec. 1st in MI. We haven't decided if she should be considered a K'er or a 1st grader. She's an average Kindergartener this year. Dh said we should red shirt her, to give her an advantage. He pointed out that in the majority of the country she would be a K'er this fall. But I'm not so sure, socially dd has many friends who are K'ers this year, In sunday school she's with the K-1 Class, etc. Even if she's "average" academically that could change. I'd also have to explain the whole thing to everybody. Just seems kind of complicated. BTW we don't have to do any testing or reporting to the state so that's not anything to consider. (if it was we would've red shirted her) This should be my 1st poll :D
  9. I've been looking at Landry Academy. It's an online class they have some classes for 4th-6th graders and a lot more for older students.
  10.:hurray: That's awesome! I wish we had more days like that ;)
  11. Breakfast? Dh made eggs, pancakes, toast and bacon.. Dh always makes a big breakfast the day after Easter. :D Lunch? Everyone's still pretty full from breakfast if the kids get hungry I'll make sandwhiches. Dinner? Shake n Bake Chicken, Fried Potatoes and probably corn. How was your weekend? Great! Friday we went to the Detroit Zoo with Dh's Parents, we live about 4 hours away from there. It was nice. Saturday my oldest 3 & I went shopping and saw the Hunger Games and Sunday we had Church and then had guests over for dinner. We also did all our easter traditions. (colored eggs, found the easter baskets, easter egg hunt, etc) :001_smile: What are you doing today? I'll probably go grocery shopping, Dh took the kids to the park. We didn't do school today since dd13 didn't have school either. :)
  12. I cannot find any summer clothes for my 11 1/2 year old dd. She's taller for her age (5' 1") and tiny (90 pounds). The shorts that fit her in length are way to big around the waist. The shorts that fit her waist are way to short! We live in the middle of no where :tongue_smilie:, but we went shopping on Friday in a somewhat bigger town and found nothing. We will have to shop online. I've found skirts (my 13 year old has had the same problem) but of course my 11 year old hates skirts. :glare: She wears juniors clothes, usually a 0 or 1 long in pants.. She's extremely picky about her clothes, don't even get me started on shirts. Thanks for any suggestions of where to look!
  13. Next year I think we're using MFW 1st, I'm wondering about how long it'll take each day? I know once a week there's an exploration day for science, is that all they have for that day? Are music and art scheduled? MFW 1st feels light, even with a different math. I planned on her also doing Roadtrip USA & Noeo Chemistry 1 with my 7 yo dd and Song School Latin. I haven't taken in consideration grammar or spelling (if I decided to do them).. I don't want to have her do to much though. My 7 yo did a lot in first grade but she is a totally different kiddo. Thanks for any thoughts! :001_smile:
