  1. We've used both Mosdos and CLE. I really like CLE for 5th-8th because there are only 5 light units per year. Then I add novels in between.

CLE covers things so well, with built in review. Mosdos covers things well, also, but requires a little more effort with regard to planning.

  2. Nope. I'm 39 and it isn't something that's really brought up. For one, I know all my friends' husbands, and I for sure don't need any details about their TeA habits. Yikes.

Now, 1-on-1 with my closest friend, I have had brief conversations about birth control or things like that, not-super-personal.

I am almost afraid to ask because I need easy history for next year for my youngest, and was planning the AtB Notgrass you mentioned. But go ahead and tell me. What did you hate about it?

For me, it just felt disjointed/poor flow from lesson to lesson. Maybe it's because they're trying to maintain the pattern in each unit:  a history lesson /landmark lesson /biography lesson/etc. Sometimes it felt like a stretch or the parts were unrelated...

I think it would be nice to offer to pay half, but since it was their suggestion I certainly don't think you're obligated to.

(Our neighbor's huge Bradford pear has been laying on our storage building for three weeks today. It came partially down on a very windy day and I don't think they have the funds to finish it off. I suppose we'll get somebody to get it off our building and cross our fingers what's still standing doesn't come down. We've known since we moved here that it was a ticking time bomb.)

Bradford pears are jerks. We had a large one split in half on Monday. Blocked out driveway but didn't hit anything. (We have 3 in our front yard - this is our 2nd split.)

OP - I agree that you're under no obligation, but (if you have the money) it would be neighborly. We are fearful about a very large tree in our neighbor's yard. It's on the side of the house where my kids' rooms are, but we can't afford to have it removed.

How doable is this?  How long was each session/section?  I have arthritis in my knee so lunges (unless modified) are out.  I am plus sized so some moves just don't work for me.   That said, when I can find a yoga that I like I do enjoy it.

    Here's a breakdown of the DVD-based program I had: https://dysfunctionalparrot.com/health-and-fitness/ddp_yoga_1/

I like DDP's matter-of-fact, no-woo approach. That said, he didn't click with me. I do yoga with Jane Adams DVDs (on Amazon) almost daily, but for weight and strength, I prefer other forms of exercise.

You can see his style here:

  6. My parents went last year for their 40th anniversary. They did one of those river cruises that took them for 2-3 days, with stops in certain places. I believe they purchased the trip as a package deal with everything laid out for them (which, having little Alaska experience, worked well for them). It was a pricey trip, though.

ETA: they went in July and had great weather.

  7. We use the Iowa -- we actually just finished our testing yesterday. Oldest DD is slightly behind in math and hasn't had a lot of algebra exposure. Well, her math test was jam-packed with algebra. Yikes. My girls are old enough that they know the test means/changes nothing...but it's still frustrating to feel so out of ones depth.

  8. Meh. I think you're probably doing fine. I try to cook most nights, try to include veggies, offer healthy snacks. I'm not over here baking my own bread or fermenting things or whatever. I'm focusing on moderation and balance. They'll be fine if they occasionally (or more, depending on how the week is going) eat McNuggets for lunch or cheese puffs for breakfast.

Lunches: sandwiches get old for me. We alternate with soup/crackers, pepperoni/cheese/olive plates, refried beans with cheese quesadillas, etc. Everything comes with a veggie and fruit. Easy peasy.

  9. Youngest DD has very straight, fine hair. It often looks very oily around the front/forehead area, even when clean.

I thought about trying dry shampoo to freshen things up, but I don't really see an improvement. Is there a specific brand that's great? Is it about application technique? Help me out here. 🙂
