  1. Okay, to all you experienced homeschoolers out there....I've been researching bible curricula and am having a hard time finding one that really has the child master the concepts and applies life application. I would like it to be minimul on parents part and mostly independent, although some work on my part would work also. The three that seem to fit some of the criteria are: Classical Studies (memoria press) Bible Study Guides for all Ages - I love this but it seems time intensive on the parent end? Know and Grow Bible Studies (inductive for kids) help!?
  2. I am seriously thinking of switching to Michael Clay Thompson's LA program. I looks wonderful. I see though that it comes from a secular view point and I would prefer a Christian one. Is there any christian's here that use this program that could tell me their experiences with it? And what core program do you use to compliment it? Thank you!!!
  3. Any good books or curriculum for to help teach elementary Library skills? Grace and Peace
  4. OH, Meet the Masters looks wonderful. Thanks for the suggestion. Could anyone compare this program to Discovering Art by Calvert school for me? they use DVD's as well i believe and incorporate art history.
  5. Any good cookbook out there that teaches cooking and nutrition alongside it? How do you teach cooking and health? My girls want their own recipe box and recipes they can do on their own so we have started that. But I would really like to throw in the nutrition as well.
  6. I appreciate every ones replies. Does anyone use SOTW with their grammar school students and then plan on using TOG starting in the middle grades? I'm wondering your point of view on this also. Thanks!
  7. Lol, I just realized that The Hive, is this forum. Haha, I guess I did know about it already :)
  8. 1. WTM 2. Sonlight catalog for Lit. 3. Veritas press catalog 4. Peace Hill Press (Story of the world CD's, FLL, WWE) 5. All Through the ages guide This is Fun, I'd never heard of The hive before. Thanks!
  9. What options are out there that teach the names of countries, rivers, etc. so by the end of the year you can label the world map or a good chunk of it. One that has living book options to read aloud about the cultures as well? I've been posting a lot the last few days. Can you tell I'm trying to put everything together for next year?:) I have narrowed it down!
  10. My daughter just turned 1 and is currently at a 5 month developmental level. She had infantile spasms when she was younger which stopped her development. The spasms are gone now. We are working with Physical Therapist. Is there anything nutritionally to heighten her quality of life and or help along her development? Any information is appreciated. I am still nursing, she also has baby food.
  11. Has anyone used this program. Did you like it? Could you give me an overview?
  12. A Child's Geography compared to other geography programs out there?
  13. Is there anything like this out there. :)
  14. Okay, so I see that some people like TOG in the elementary years and others say it's better to wait until the middle grades. I keep going around in circles with this. I have 4 children in the early grades, ages 5,6,7 and 8. Now, my 8 year old looooves history and is a Competent Carl (Cathy Duffy term) so wants to continually connect things. I love the WTM and want to stick with something that is close to those principles. I am going around in circles right now trying to figure out what to do. I seem to always come back around to TOG. I heard someone say it's textbookishy in the elementary years, or maybe I misunderstood them, I really don't like that idea. I have read the guide and looked at everything online and read the 3 week sample. I would really like more opinions on this from people who have had experience with the program. I am also looking into Easy Classical, which I did use some last year, but I find that the read-alouds are awesome for my older 2 I'm afraid the choices for history would be a little advanced for my youngest 2. I am glad to have so many wonderful options though! And of course there is the SOTW and activity guide? Help please!
  15. Thank you Mindy and ecclecticmum. Both your posts are very helpful.
  16. I am looking for a compare and contrast to the WTM. I also would like to have the added christian component that's why i'm considering TOG and EC. Does anyone do that with SOTW? What do you add? Should I not worry about the connections with the bible so much until the middle grades? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!
  17. I like the simplicity of WTM and feel lead to keep it simple but I would like to add a book that will connect the history more with the bible. I am considering using EC history/science/music/geography, pretty much the whole curriculum or TOG. The only concerns I have it that wouldn't be keeping it simple with time to reflect and then at the end of the week go to the library and get more on what they were interested in. I have 4 children that would be homeschooling together ages 5,6,7 and 8. I would like to hear some compare and contrast on the similarities and differences of these programs to WTM. The other thought I have is to use WWM as is and just make sure I teach them bible stories and read them the bible without worrying to much about making those connections to history in the grammer stage but wait until the middle grades? Any thoughts?
  18. My youngest daughter will be 1 next Sunday. She is currently 4 to5 months developmentally. She suffered from Infantile spasms, those are gone now and have been for about 4 months. I am looking for advice, any good books to help with a disabled baby/child? She still has partial seizures and we are thinking of putting her on the Ketogenic diet, I would like to here any experience anyone has had with this diet. Any other natural approaches? Wonderful Dr's out there? I am happy with her neurologist and Physical therapist but of course, I want to do as much as I can for my little girl. Thank you!
