  1. Thanks for all your help and input. We will be doing all the problems. Do you suggest breaking the lesson into 2 days? 30 problems a day would take her 2 hours to complete. :001_huh: Thanks again!
  2. Those of you who have completed the Advanced math text by Saxon, did you have your dc complete every problem of every lesson? This is what is recommended but I wonder if it is really necessary or if it is beneficial for tests like the SAT. Thanks in advance. :bigear:
  3. We spend anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour on LC. Introducing a new lesson with some additional work could run 1 hour. But working in the workbook could be only 30 minutes. I try to break up the work throughout 1 week (including a test)so as to not make latin a burden. So far they are having lots of fun with it.
  4. We purchased the DVDs since I had zero knowledge of Latin and was a little intimidated with teaching latin even to my 4th/5th graders. They have been so helpful in teaching the kids and for me to learn also. I think they have been worth the money. I really don't think we would have learned as much without them.
  5. Yes. We watch the DVD actively...Say the prayers, say the conjugations and declensions orally, take notes on the derivatives. Then we work through the workbook either same day or the next day. It depends on the length of the DVD lesson. If we move the workbook work to the next day then we will review old vocab or make new vocab cards.
  6. :iagree: We picked it up at last years HS conference. My DC and I have been very pleased. My kiddos are not big on poetry, but this has been fun for them. The system that is outlined in the curriculum is easy enough to implement with all 5 of my kiddos, too. I bought the cds of Andrew Pudewa reciting the poems, also. He does a great job putting emphasis where it is supposed to. Olga
  7. I haven't used either program. I do know a little about Spanish. From the website for Espanol Para Chicos & Grandes I see no grammar included. The Spanish for Children looks to have a good amount of grammar for kids. By grammar I mean the inclusion of any conjugations of verbs. As for European Spanish versus Latin American Spanish, the pronunciation is different. It is the famous lisp where the "s" is pronounced as a "th". If you are wanting your DD to converse with folks from Latin America, learning to pronounce words appropriately would be very helpful. The vocabulary varies a little as well. Although I don't believe this is too significant. HTH, Olga
  8. We use the mini storage drawers also. They are perfect for storing the small manipulatives. If I want to further divide a drawer (for different kinds of counting items, for example), I put them in a small zip lock. The front end of our drawers is clear so that I can label and see in the drawer. Olga
  9. Is the retail price only 49.95 for all 9 videos plus the ancients? Did I miss something? Olga
  10. I have 5 children ( 13-11-9-8-7). 2 dc are using the dive dvds (dd-13 finishing Saxon Algebra 1 and ds 9 finishing Saxon 54) The lessons do get longer for the most part with upper levels of math. dd really likes being independent and listening to the lesson and doing her problems. ds's lessons are shorter (don't recall right now, but can find out if you like). He is okay with the dvd. Not his most favorite thing to do. He would really like me to present the lesson. But as you know with many young children it is hard to put in all that time at the beginning of each lesson. So I have them listen to the dvd and if they don't understand something presented, they ask. My dc are also watching the dvds for the Latina Christiana. These lessons are very long approx. 30-45 minutes, I think. But it really helps take the load off me in presenting the material. Sometimes I watch with them, sometimes they watch and then do the workbook, themselves. From my perspective, the dvds are a great help. HTH. Let me know if you have specific questions. Olga in CO
  11. This year we used both of these but, we are only up to Module 10. The multi media is useful but not necessary. It adds animation to some of the concepts in the text. It also has lots of pronunciation. Regarding the audio cd, my dd disliked it very much. The reader sounded like a 13 year old girl. The reader just read the text,no emotion. However, if you dc needs to have the text read to them and you don't have the time, this is definitely better than nothing. I have not used the lapbook, nor have I heard of it before now. HTH, Olga
  12. Thanks for your help with this. I have seen some very interesting text books with some great critical thinking quesitons regarding literary analysis. I think I will stick with the whole book approach. Olga in CO
  13. Okay, help me understand...again! :001_huh: Which is best for literature analysis in the middle school years? Is it the text that gives many different types of literature pieces to practice your analyzing skills? Or is analyzing a whole book the better way? Thanks in advance for your help. Olga in CO
  14. I use children's books as an alternative to RR. Every summer and sometimes in about January they come out with a sale flyer that is includes some pretty good prices. They are a little more expensive than RR, but they have very competitive prices when the sale flyer comes out. Here is their website. http://www.homeschooldiscountproducts.com/servlet/StoreFront Olga in CO
  15. I spoke with Dr. Dobbins are the recent HS conference. He indicated that one of his goals in writing this series of curricula was to try to get the kids to think critically in answering the questions for each unit. Do you think that the questions do that? Thanks for your input! Olga in CO
  16. I also live south of denver in Highlands ranch. Hs'ing a houseful of 4 girls (14, 11, 8, 7) and 1 boy (9,almost10). Angie, are you in HAH? If so, I think I know who you are.:001_smile: Olga
  17. Does anyone currently use this program? What are your likes or dislikes? Olga in CO
