We did a K curriculum this fall, so I'm calling my daughter a K'er. She just turned 4, and according to one online test I took, she's reading at a 4th grade level (words only - comprehension has not been tested yet). We will work on 1st grade material next year, skipping the actual reading teaching, but concentrating on things like spelling, alphabetical order (even though I think she kind of gets this already), writing, etc., until we get to a point where I can actually teach her something. (When she was evaluated in November, she was reading on a mid 1st grade level and her comprehension was on the same level.) Since she is only 4, I hesitate to move her up too fast, so for now we will prepare for our 1st grade year, and I'll just keep letting her pick out books from the library to practice her reading.
In Michigan we don't have to report anything, but since my daughter's birthday is early in the calendar year, she technically would not be eligible for PS Kindergarten until September 2009, when she's almost 6. How bored would she be??? :glare:
