We're watching Liberty's Kids and others that go with history or science. I also like to watch on my own time occasionally(art history & history).

I was inspired by his book Teach.. and then read his other book and watched the PBS show on him. I was inspired to change somethings we do with our literature studies (read aloud all together each having our own book) and include my dc when planning our educational vacation trips.

If it's a cheap book and I know I'll keep it I write in it; otherwise, if there are important things from the book I want to remember I write it in my commonplace journal.
Go to Roman Reading and click on 5 Practical Skills for Transforming Your Life through Lit.

I just bought Traditional Logic I and I'm only on chapter 2 but looking ahead it seems that this is a set of rules for a game I've never played and probably will not play in my lifetime.
Can someone help me out and tell me what's the point of formal logic and how it's going to help us? I've read SWB's logic chapter in revised TWTM but it's still not clicking for me.
Anyone been through Traditional Logic and can say it's been well worth it?
Thanks!

a Christian High School in the fall and we're all excited about it!
The opportunities (academics, sports, clubs, etc.)to attend a good high school outweigh what we could offer him at home. He wants to go and I'm relieved from the burden of trying to be and do it all for/with him.
I'm happy for my ds and look forward to homeschooling only ONE dc this fall.

CLE reading is NOT just about reading but thinking about reading with lots of literature analysis, critical thinking, latin root words, scripture memorization and more. It uses a reader (short stories and poems NOT short/abridged works of lit.)and 5 workbooks for the year.

that I've found. CLE covers lit. analysis plus other things but it doesn't apply it to writing (not up to gr. 8 at least). I highly recommend CLE reading.
Other than CLE, PASS LA units 6 do a good job:

Writing About Literature by Edgar Roberts covers lit. analysis and applys it to writing (check on Amazon used).

I got this book because it was recommended by someone on these boards and WOW it's an eye opener. It's an excellent look at how controlling Asian parents are pushing their dc's education to the benefit of their dc. Maybe that's why there are SO many Asian students at the top schools in this country (MIT, Harvard, etc.). My parents were totally hands off so many of ideas in this book I wouldn't even think to do (until now)!
Anyone else reading this book?

even if you do spread it over a year (we do 1 unit then take a break & read a whole book then go back to it) .
CLE reading is only 3 wks work for each lightunit for a total of 15 weeks of reading for each of the grades 4-8. They are well worth our time because they teach so much! I highly recommend CLE reading.

Choose one of the AO years and follow that year's plan. I'm reading many of the yr. 7 books.

I used some of these ideas with my dc who are not ADHD and they work:

This form takes too much time!

We enjoy camping in NH.
-
I'm reading many of the books for AO year 7 plus some others - Emma, Deconstructing Penguins, Iliad ... as you might imagine I'm reading most of them very slowly. The variety of books works well for me.

I miss the old board!!
There is so much dead space to scroll down to see messages and more difficult to read & find topic of interest quickly.

Is there anything as thorough as R&S, but secular and more modern? nt
