  1. I started with the book first, then got the CDs, then went back to the text. If you can get the CDs used, you could use both and see which your dc prefer. They didn't have online when I used Professor B.

I found that the text actually explained things quite well. If I remember correctly, it was in book 2 that we switched back to using the text after trying the CD for a bit. I don't think we did book 3 because my son went to school the year after that.

Did you refer to the CD for the harder lessons though? Or for the book 1 number recognition drills?
  2. My 2nd ds who turned 13 in January seems to be developing bre*st buds, especially on one side. He is not overweight, so I don't think it's extra fat in that area. I noticed last week when he was wearing a thin shirt, that one side seemed to be protruding more than the other.

Then today at swimming lessons, I was watching him from a distance, and his chest looked like what a girl's would when she is just starting to develop. So tonight, I felt around both sides, and there is definitely a hard lump on both sides, but once side is a bit bigger than the other. I remember developing like this when I started puberty.

I will be making an appointment for him with the doctor, but in the meanwhile, has anyone else's dss had this happen to them? I am trying not to worry.

  3. No, not impossible. I would probably pick the lowest level that I thought would appeal to / be useful to the 11yo. Maybe level 4? There might be times when you'd have to help the 6yo a little, but overall it should be fine.

    Thanks, Abbey :)

  4. I used Prof B with my son, and got the CDs, but you aren't supposed to just let your child watch the CDs on her own. You are supposed to sit with them and read the parts that you are supposed to read.

My son actually preferred that I teach the math to him using the textbooks (he was in grade 5 at the time), so I ended up selling the CDs and just using the text book and workbooks.

I would think that you would either get the CD or the textbook, but you need the workbook because that's where the practice problems are after the lesson has been taught. There's also an answer key you can get.

  5. What are you using for grade 8 science? I looked at Apologia General Science, but it looks kind of dry and boring to me. Maybe I am wrong though. Apologia's Physical Science looks more interesting, but I need something for grade 8. Ds is in school this year, but I may homeschool him next year.

    Thanks.

  6. Need some good suggestions, please!
