I'm just bugged that "myth" is being used as a synonym for "falsehood" on a Classical Education forum. Egads! :D
Don Quixote

Yes, understood it was an ad for their product, but wondered if the myths were true :001_smile:

I guess others disagree with me, but I think you could definitely do it without the DVDs, that it is self-explanatory and not confusing. I do think you may not get as MUCH out of it as you would if you watched the DVDs, but that doesn't mean it is confusing or not worth doing. I vote go for it.
:iagree:

This article has me confused. Is this the Singapore math (primary Mathematics) that most people use?
-
FYI....Homeschool Buyers Co op has a good deal on past copies of The Arrow. I purchased 5 for $25. I did not purchase the evaluation tool.
-
I only read the OP question about hearing the word "lover". Now, all I can think of is the Saturday Night Live Will Ferrell and Rachel Dratch characters

There is a great post by Janice in NJ on the logic writing board that may be helpful (sorry, not sure how to link).
-
Bumping because I found Janice's thoughts so helpful.

Wondering about putting the timeline on 4 x 6 index cards, and then putting cards in a 4 x 6 binder. Would this work?

I was wondering if MA was an easy state to report to. Also, is MA a homeschool friendly state?
Thanks!

Just found the answer to my question Here !
very helpful! Especially the variations from a guide, and others not using a guide at all.
-
This would be for 4th/5th grade.
I was curious about Progeny Press interactive guides and Veritas Press, but also would love to know if there are others to consider.
Thank you?
Anyone not use a lit. guide?

I often hear that Pennsylvania is the worst state, but I live in Pennsylvania and it is New York that scares ME.
NY is actually not bad at all

I switched to Straight Talk a couple of days ago. I am having the worst time sending text messages. Sometimes people get them, sometimes they don't. Making me crazy and causing problems. Anyone else have this issue with ST?
-
Anyone have any feedback on customer service with prepaid phones?
Also, concerned about potential roaming charges?
In my searching, I found a number of negative reviews about ST's customer service.
-
Did you purchase the phones at Walmart?
Walmart is the Straight Talk vendor, correct?
-
Just an individual plan (right now). I don't need a smart phone, but it would be ok. I mostly talk and text a ton! I was with Verizon for years, but now open to anything. I would love to purchase a new phone. I've been researching for hours and have online chatted with Verizon a couple of times. I'm thinking of doing the Verizon prepaid $50 plan, but they said I had to have one of their phones.
Wondering if I could purchase a "C" phone anywhere?
-
My cell contract with Verizon just ended. Now I'm trying to decide what to do. Any suggestions? Do you prefer contract or prepaid? Which carrier do you like best?
Thank you!

We just got back from the playground, and while there I was thinking of this post. I never played any sports growing up. Now, as an adult I play just about every sport. I was just playing football, dodge ball, and basketball. I literally did not learn to play (nor did I feel comfortable playing) until I became a mom.
-
I'm not sure I could find the article again, but I read somewhere that kiddos who engage in sports have a very reduced risk of alcohol, drug, and tobacco abuse in high school.
:)
I chuckled a little when I read the above. I have heard the same thing, and it makes perfect sense. I laughed because while in high school the girl's tennis team was suspended for drinking before their matches. The football, baseball, soccer, and basketball teams were big partiers, too. I didn't play sports myself, but my brothers did. Oh the stories I could tell! I grew up in a somewhat conservative, affluent town and drinking/drugs was very common during and after school (with the athletes) It was crazy!
I think competitive sports are great if you enjoy them, but they are not necessary. I believe music, art, and other activities can be just as beneficial.

I saw that you used HOD in the past. I started out using HOD(a few yrs ago) and was majorly turned off by it (the author rubbed me wrong & I didn't love the guides we used). That being said, I'm really liking the looks of HOD Preparing Hearts guide. I had been piecing things together which was working fine, but I really want someone to guide and tell me what to do this year. I will probably tweak the guide, but have learned that is fine to do.
Maybe look at different levels of the vendors you've already tried. They may surprise you.
HTH.

Is your child in 4th? We were using A Beka in 4th and BOMBED the fractions! We switched to Saxon 5/4 (they don't start fractions till 6/7). Now, dd is in 6th grade, doing Epsilon and FLYING through it. It may just be that your kiddo isn't ready for fractions. Have you always used MUS? Could you maybe do something else and go back to it?
Blessings!
Dorinda
Thank you!

I didn't read other responses yet, but Heart of Dakota would be great and affordable!
:iagree: and you can buy most of it (including the guides) used which helps bring down the cost. And yes, you could probably combine guides (Bigger maybe?)
