  1. We made two sugar cube Pyramids to go along with our curriculum. We glued the cubes together with white Elmer's glue. They've sat out side through two rains and they are hardly dissolving. My dd is concerned that they won't disintegrate. Now, I'm worried too! Perhaps I used too much glue? Will these things be outside on the deck all through our Ontario winter? How long did it take for you pyramids to dissolve?

  2. I'm trying to watch our budget.

If you had to chose between

    and

    Which would you buy?

Neither one is available at my library! Unless I want to do an Inter-library Loan which only allows me limited time to actually use the book. So, purchasing one is a better option.

We've been The story of the world for the past 5 weeks without these. Will my 10ds and 8dd enjoy looking at it or is this more for Mom to research extra for the lessons.

  3. I've tried to google this for over 20 minutes and I can't find it. What would you call it when you draw a box around a word to emphasis if it has taller letters like l, t k, h and if it has letters that hang below the line like q,p,y,j ?

I know I had found a website last year that let me put my own word list into the program and it printed out the correct boxed shape so my dd could just print the letters into the boxes. But I can't find it now. Any suggestions? I'll check back tomorrow, perhaps if I go to sleep, the answer will come to me.

  4. I'm using Ann Voskamp's Volume One right now. We are in lesson 5. The kids are loving it! I was able to order about 75% of the suggested additional reading books from our local library which is a huge cost savings. But you don't need these book to use the curriculum effectively.

In the lesson about the layers of the atmosphere, I made my own wall chart of the layers of the atmosphere for the kids because they just couldn't visualize it on their own. But they had a great time pretending to be walking through the layers and floating out into space with me. We are a very kinetic household when it comes to learning! LOL

I was able to find youtube videos or free interactive games that went along with every lesson. You can find my bookmarks for these videos and such here: http://www.symbaloo.com/mix/crimsonbelovedgeography . I've used symbaloo for years and it's user friendly interface makes creating visual bookmarks easy for my children to find exactly what they need without messing with my own bookmarks.

I also bought book two but I haven't had time to read it yet.

  5. I have a blog where I talk about forgiveness after rape. I was assaulted as a child and I've come to the point where I have chosen to forgive the teen who assaulted me. At times, I've written how this experience has affected how I raise my own children. I also write book reviews. I just started homeschooling so I just announced to my readers that I was officially homeschooling.
