  1. I am buying Vocabulary from Classical Roots Book B for my daughter. I'm wondering if we will be fine with just the Answer Key or if it is suggested to buy the actual Teacher Guide (that also includes the answers). Thank you in advance!
  2. My daughter is starting 7th grade and I'd like to use Vocabulary from Classical Roots. Should I go ahead and start with Level A even though she hasn't done any of the other levels? I also have a 4th grader and was considering doing Level 4. Should I wait until he's a little older for these books? Thanks in advance!
  3. You can arrange to have your kids take the MSP at your local public school. We have had our kids take the SAT through http://cctestingservices.com/ . What area of WA are you in?
  4. First off, I am so sorry if this question has been asked before. I am having trouble searching these forums. I haven't been on here in awhile! My dd is in 6th grade this year and doing Saxon 7/6. I assumed that next year she would go to 8/7, but I have heard others talk about Algebra 1/2. What is the recommended route for the next few years? Thanks in advance!
  5. Hi all, When we used the Saxon 6/5 Dive CD, there was a page that I printed that was a suggested schedule to finish all of the lessons. I am looking for a similar schedule from 7/6, but we are not using the Dive CD this year. Does anyone have this and might possibly be able to send this to me? Thank you in advance!
  6. Do you think 2nd or 3rd graders should be doing Vocabulary (such as Wordly Wise)? I love it for my 5th grader, and have been doing it with my 8 1/2 year old - 2nd grade son as well. He loves to learn the words, but hates the comprehension questions (writing out the answers). (He hates to write, in general.) I'd love to hear your opinions on when you think vocab teaching should begin, other than natural reading, etc, as I consider quitting it with him very soon! Thank you!
  7. We are considering CC for our family. Our oldest will be in 6th grade, so for one year we can have everyone in the Foundation program, which I think looks amazing. We want to be sure that we agree with the Challenge program though so that we aren't needing to switch the following year. I really like what I see there and don't necessarily have a problem with any of it, but my husband made a comment that going to the Challenge program is a lot like sending your child to private school one day a week and then they do the work at home the rest of the week. This seems to take away the freedom of homeschooling, doesn't it? It looks like a great curriculum, but are you tied to it and how do you take a day off during the week if you need to? I would love to hear your opinions!
  8. I'm trying to get away from Homer. :) I just emailed them, so we shall see what they say! Thanks for your help!
  9. One more question...what is recommended once someone finishes both Writing Tales?
  10. Is the five paragraph essay included in Winning with Writing?
  11. That looks like it's high school level. Do you know of something similar for 5th/6th graders?
  12. Hi Everyone, We are going to be taking a break from our present writing curriculum (CW Homer B). My daughter is in 5th grade and I feel like she needs more instruction on basic writing (such as a 5 paragraph essay). I am looking to use either Writing Tales or Winning With Writing for the remainder of the year. I'd love to hear your thoughts on either curriculum or if you know of another good one! Is Writing Tales just going to piggy back on CW (or be easier?), and WWW be focusing on completely different ways to write? Thank you SO much in advance.
  13. I just finally received BTC 1 and it does look so easy. I'm debating whether I should use it or not or return it for BTC 2. Decisions, decisions!
  14. My 7 year old is using ETC, and I've been considering adding "Beyond the Code" for some reading skills. Has anyone used these and if so, what do you think of them?
  15. Wow! Thank you so much! I really appreciate your replies!
  16. I bought Saxon Math 1 (used) and just realized that the page in the TE doesn't have the meeting strip in it. Is anyone willing to scan it and email it to me? I'd so appreciate it!
  17. What school are you ladies with? I did CVA last year and OASIS this year.
  18. We have "Typing Instructor for Kids" but someone just told me about this website...http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/flash/stage1.shtml
  19. I will be homeschooling my son this year in 1st grade, after a year of Kindergarten in public school. He learned D'nealian there and actually does a great job with it. I have used "Reason for Handwriting" with my daughter and like it, but when I tell my son that it'll be a little different (not D'Nealian), he doesn't like the idea too much. Can anyone recommend a good (fun?) handwriting program in either D'Nealian or Modern Manuscript that they like for 1st grade? Or, any other advice? I don't want to confuse him too much or frustrate him at this point. Thank you so much!
  20. I am planning on using Aesop B with my 4th grade daughter next year. My understanding is that you don't really need to add any grammar to it. However, she has completed First Language Lessons 3 and is diagramming, etc. I don't want her to lose what she's learned if Aesop B is light on the grammar. So, my question is, does anyone supplement with a Language program with Classical Writing Aesop B? I'd either go for FFL 4 and skip the redundant material, or was considering Rod and Staff English for 4th grade. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
  21. Where would you start an 8 year old 3rd grader in WWE - Book 2 or 3? We completed First Language Lessons 1/2 last year, so she's done some narration. I'm thinking I will start with Book 3 (when it is published) and go back to Book 2 if it is too difficult. Anyone use them that has any insight? Thanks in advance!
  22. We used a Scholastic book and then A Reason For Handwriting (Transition book) for my daughter in 2nd grade this last year. We didn't finish the book, so I was just planning on having her continue with it this year. But I was recently looking at Zaner Bloser and it looks really good, especially to start the year out with relearning the letter formation, etc. Any thoughts on Zaner Bloser and if so, do you need the Teacher's Edition or just the student book? Thanks in advance.
