I am looking to possibly buy a 10" tablet..... not sure which one to get and what size I want???
I am looking at the Toshiba Thrive....love that the memory is expandable on it and I think it's the only one that has all the ports...
If I went with the Thrive would 8gb suffice since I can expand the memory via external storage?

can't you expand the storage capacity above what is internal on the Thrive? Still not sure what to do..... The Nook is ok for reading, I would LOVE something larger but not as bulky as my laptop..... just not sure if it's worth spending $400 on
I would have to use it for more than just surfing the web in order to justify the expense..... I am thinking maybe some planning type apps that aren't feasible to use on the Itouch b/c of it's size????

I have a nook color and I love sitting and reading blogs, msg boards on it however the screen size really gets to me. I am contemplating a 10" tablet...maybe toshiba thrive?? Is the size difference going to be worth the $$$?? I would probably use some apps on it but we have an ipod touch already for the apple apps for the kids.

I'm here, upcoming 9th grader and I am sickly terrified....all DH says is you can do it :001_smile: however I'm not so confident in myself as he is in me....:001_huh:
-
me...I have an upcoming 9th grader, my first upcoming experience with homeschooling high school and I am TERRIFIED:001_huh:

right now I am actually using a $20 memorex speaker I bought at BB to listen to my ipod touch.....sound isn't bad either....
-
what cord are you talking about and where can I get one??? We just discovered with the otterbox on docking the ipod touch isn't an option:confused:
-
Where can I find a good one at a good price? It CAN'T dock and charge though.... we have the otterbox case on our Ipod and you have to remove it to use any docking device.
-
is there ANY docking station the Ipod touch will fit into with the Otterbox on or will it have to be removed??
-
What type do you have?
Ours is a desktop.... OSX 10.4.11 1 Ghz PowerPCG4, less than 1GB of Memory:001_huh:
we did get a good deal on it though...... we bought it for $300 about 5 years ago. It still works ok, just have an annoying problem with Safari closing me out...

like Monopoly but for dog lovers..... obviously online isn't an option at this point. Our walmart doesn't have it, target didn't seem to have it listed online... Any other places I should check?
-
the Jr or regular? My 2 youngest are 8 and 9..... then it's DH, myself and 13yo ds?
-
anybody have any experience with the Ipod touch and recording?
-
wonder if that would be better than the ipod touch???? We actually had one of those digital recorders in our hand at Best Buy the other night and decided not to get it :tongue_smilie:
-
DS was given an old cassette tape player/recorder to him by his grandma....he loves that thing....he has a tape and loves recording himself on it. Well...My mom is giving 13yo ds an acoustic guitar for Christmas. I know he is going to want to record himself playing so I am wondering what the best way to do say is?? Would an Ipod touch be a good option? Is there something better but yet affordable ;)

We bought a refurb ipod touch..... trying to set it up but I have a MAJOR problem
I can't set it up on our MAC with our current version of Itunes (it's telling me I need the current Itunes) but I can't UPGRADE either because we need Mac version osx 10.5 and we have 10.4.11 :001_huh:
:glare::confused::001_huh:

I know there are some apps ONLY for the ipad but how many "good" educational ones work for the Ipod touch?
Right now we are debating the ipad vs the ipod touch because I want access to the apple apps. Ipod touch is more in the budget but I don't wanna regret it and wish I had gotten the Ipad.
Also, anybody have a child/children that were bothered by the size of the screen on the ipod? I know people use them all the time and the iphone for apps but I as just wondering...
Thanks

oh and our phones are the basic model, no smart phones for us and DH doesn't want one.... we don't even text ;)
again though... it's all about what is right for US.... our family...
-
thanks everyone....YES we do have more "technology" than some..... wish we didn't have it though.... and I hate feeling the "pull" to get MORE :001_huh:
I seriously want to take the Ipod touch back, it's unopened. I know we don't NEED it....
I am seriously considering getting rid of the PS2.... the Wii we do use for netflix viewing though..
The TV will stay....even though it's an old tube type..LOL... and is barely working...
The NOOK color.... I now realize we could have done fine without it :tongue_smilie:
-
I'm talking Ipads, ipods, e readers, smart phones, gaming systems etc...
I want to simplify our life a lot but it's hard when the world throws all these neat gadgets at you..... and everyone around you convinces you how wonderful they are
Granted, I know some have a LOT of great stuff to offer..... but in my house they seem to create chaos.... We don't have smart phones or ipads....we have laptop, nook color and a Wii and PS.
We had bought the kids an Ipod touch but I have serious hesitation. I wanted them to have something to access the apple apps and this was in our budget....but honestly those apple apps are NOT necessary..... I know we can learn just fine without them. I also know there is other great stuff on there but honestly I am a pen and paper kinda girl.
I know a lot of you have all this great, wonderful stuff and I hope I'm not offending you :001_smile: I'm just curious if there is anybody out there like me??

for the Itouch..... what could be useful to me with homeschooling vs ipad?
-
I have ordered the kids a refurbished Ipod touch to share..... don't want to get them each one and can't afford to either. I have been contemplating the Ipad refurbs though.... but that is even more $$ and would really make things tight for buying much more for them.
I am wanting it mainly to access the Apple apps.... some music for my 13yo ds....and probably some music for Me :001_smile: doubt it will be used for internet usage much. We already have nook color, laptop and desktop that does that.
In that case would you stick with the cheaper option...Ipod touch??? I guess this size of the touch makes me question keeping it vs getting Ipad. Afraid it's going to be too small for them to enjoy the apps on.

How well can your 8 year old clean his/her room alone?

My 8yo dd struggles to clean her room without it going under the bed, in the closet, in the corner etc.....
she thinks if the middle of the floor is clean then it's good enough:001_huh:
She has a place for everything so why can't she put it there? She has a bad habit of dragging out too much stuff and then is overwhelmed trying to put it all away where it goes.
I find legos, playmobil in her dresser drawers :tongue_smilie: and she KNOWS where it goes... there are designated containers for each....
Just curious how your 7-8 year olds (she just turned 8) do in cleaning their room...
