  1. I have heard of Homeschool Tracker. I haven't used it myself, but I've heard good reviews. Here's the link- http://www.homeschooltracker.com/ and try searching for reviews also.

As for rabbit trails, be cautious in using them. They are fun, but you are still trying to keep your hubby glad that you are homeschooling. Why not leave a little wiggle room in your schedule to allow some time for them. And try some that your children are very excited about after school hours. If he gets a chance to see them enthusiastic about learning- that will help. Balance in all things is the best course. When I find out how to do it, I'll let you know!:lol::lol:

  2. I would also suggest starting from the beginning of the learning map. It's quick to get through the earlier lessons. My girls just watch the videos if they find themselves missing too many in a row. Ten problems correct in a row is a "streak" and you are considered proficient and can move on.

Now we just use Khan Academy as a supplement on our co-op day. But when my girls left public school this was their only math for the first 3 months. 60ish minutes a day starting from the beginning. The next suggested lesson(s) will be marked in green. The system will also have lessons marked in orange for review. If you get the first review question right you move on. If you miss it, you get one more chance before you have to get a streak of 10 again. This is great for reinforcement and review.

    We love Khan Academy.

1 way to use Khan Academy, is to go to the Practice Section and just start at the top of the Suggested Exercises.

The 1st topic is Addition 1. Do the problems until it tells you are ready to move on. It will take you back to the Practice section - just choose the next one on the list of Suggested Exercies.

Back on the problem screen, in the upper left corner will be some "Related Videos". Watch all the related vidoes (sometimes there are none, one, are several), then work the problems. (There are no videos listed for Addition 1).

Just keep working your way down the list

Try it yourself - the first ones will be easy for you and will go really fast.

KA will log each user's progress if they sign in with a gmail account or face book. If you sign yourself up as a coach and your children add you as their coach, you can track their activity and progress.

I am using KA for reviewing math for myself so I don't have a coach.

    Best wishes

WOW! You guys are so helpful! I, too, have been totally overwhelmed bt this site. I really wanted to use it, but wasn't sure whrer to start. I'm headed over there now to check it out better. THANK YOU!!!

  3. Can I just give all of you mom's that are making your own schedule a big round of applause? I have always wanted to do it and have not had the courage. I want to try this year, so I am paying close attention to all of your suggestions. Thank you!!!!

  4. We did K12 math K-4th. Then we switched to TT for 5th up. My son used to hate math and cry. Since we switched to TT he has actually started to somewhat like math. (Which i am very grateful for!;))

He also took the CAT test last year.

Math computation- stanine 6 and percentile 76%

Math concepts- stanine 7 and percentile 82%

I have to add he was only supposed to be in 5th, but I had him take the 6th grade test, because we were working a year ahead.

I am VERY happy with those results and TT!!!!! Math is his hardest subject by far (he scored much higher in other subjects). I know they are a lot of people that put TT down, but for us it really works. Yes, it shows in the test scores, but more importanty- he doesn't dread math anymore!!!!!!:001_smile:

I NEVER thought that was going to happen! He gets tested next year and I am confident that he will test similar or even a little better. And my bald spot (from pulling my hair out in complete math frustration) has completely grown back!!!:lol:

  5. I have a possible chance to go to one of two conventions. I need some more info to help make up my mind. I figured that I would get some good help here.;) I live in PA, so these are both reasonably close to me. #1 is the CHAP convention- http://www.chaponline.com/events/convention/. I have been to this one and really enjoyed it. #2 is the Northeast Homeschool Convention - www.northeasthomeschoolconvention.com . I kind of like the idea of trying something new, but I don't know much about this one. Are there a lot of vendors? This really matters to me; I love to see product in person. Good speakers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated- thank you!!!!:bigear:

  6. I'm a Jehovah's Witness and I have to say that being honest is the best way to go. If you are truly not interested, we understand. We are looking for those that are interested. We often have a very good response from some that are glad we came to their door. Some of you seemed to have a bad experience- and for that I apologize! Our mission is to spread the good news in the bible, not harass others. Just as in any religion, there are some that some that will come across as over zealous or even a bit odd. For the most part, we are just your average people who care.:) I have to say that it can be confusing to differentiate who is truly interested and those that are too shy to say "no thank you". I truly appreciate those who are polite. It makes me so sad when someone is really rude to my family. I am just a mom who loves God and her family and am trying to do what I feel is best. I think every other homeschool mom out there knows that there are MANY other things at home that I could be doing at home that day.;)
