  1. We're doing Academy of Science Little Professor kits on seeds, rocks and electricity. We are also reading leveled DK, Step-into-Reading and National Geographics books. I am very excited to do the kits since last year we mainly just read.
  2. Our Plan Language Arts Winning With Writing Soaring with Spelling Growing with Grammar Early readers- Science/ History related I'll read stories Math Math Mammonth 2A (almost done with this one), 2B and possible 3A Science Academy of Science- Little Professor kits for rocks, seeds and electricy DK, national geographics and step-into-reading books History Lots of library books/ What your 2nd grader needs to know/ crafts we found online and field trips to museum and festivals Music Drum lessons PE Gymnastics/ regular play
  3. Formal art (paint, crayons, paper are always available) and Science experiments (did mostly reading). I invisted more in Science kits this year to motivate myself to get them done. It's my sons favorite subject so I owe it to him.
  4. I looked at the young scientist kits but then found theacademyofscience.com. Supposedly they include everything but water and that description on experiments and the pics of whats inside look amazing. I was never hands on with science so I'm excited to have the opportunity to learn along with my son.
  5. Without a computer, I wouldn't know that homeschooling was an option. When my son was little I used to tell my husband that if we lived in the woods or somewhere far away, I would homeschool. I was ignorant to the fact that even in well populated areas, people are homeschooling. Once I found that out and saw all the resources out there, I realized it was not only feasable but the best option for my son.
  6. Winning with Writing looks like something he would like, thanks! The other programs GWG and SWS look good too.
  7. Should I use Writing With Ease 1 along with First Language Lessons 1? Do I also need a seperate spelling and reading program? Do I need to continue covering phonics or do I just continue to provide early readers? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I have everything we need for a complete program. Thanks again:D
  8. Hi, I have most of my sons 2nd grade planned but I would really apprecaite any advice in picking out a good language arts program. He did time4learning last year and his reading took off, however by the end of the year I printed out worksheets at teacherfilebox and had him reading progressive phonics books. T4L is a good program for language arts and I am debating signing him back up but I would like to hear of any better options. I would like to see his writing improve (spelling/ sentence formation). He's currently reading book 7 in advance progressive phonics books and we really like them. The books make him laugh and I've seen his confidence in reading grow. He is a very much a too the point kind of kid. He doesn't like being read long stories (has ADD and his mind wanders) or busy work. He's more mathematical/ science oriented. Not sure if this will help but for the rest of his subjects were doing Math- Math Mammoth (he loves this program)/ dreambox Science- Lets read and Find out Books/ science kits/ DVDs/ interest led History- Core knowlege sequence as a spring board/ library books Music-Drum lessons I really appreciate any suggestions. Also, I stumbled upon Moving Beyond the Page on the Rainbow Resources website. I would love to hear any feedback on that.
